Bathroom Etitquette

In the Middle Ages, it was considered sufficient to step "an arrow's flight" distance into the gardens before doing what had to be done. Royalty apparently even thought this unnecessary - one English noble was appalled to find that the visiting king and retinue defecated wherever they chose throughout his castle - and during a conversation with a young noblewoman, he was surprised to hear tinkling water and watch a puddle spreading across his floor beneath her long dress.

Think twice about having the king over to your castle!

And why is it even here? and not deleted?

Er, as historical reference for folks using the Medieval Player's Manual, or even those who want far more verisimilitude in their games than most people consider strictly necessary?

Still, it does seem to give the lie to the Monty Python quip:

"'e must be a king...'e 'asn't got :):):):) all over 'im."

I don't mind and even find decapitated animated cats funny. But I can do without actual references to bodily functions on the boards.

And for one as me who is living in a constitutional monarchy and being a devoted royalist, the title of the thread is extremely imflamatory.

Now that's simply being picky.

Childish humor aside though, I find it interesting to see examples of how our atypical vision of history differs from what it was really like. We have tons of preconceived of fairy tale princesses in beautiful castles living in serene bliss; only to learn that those castles were freezing dens of dirt, dust and garbage, and that a princess who bathes but once a year (sometimes less) doesn't fit the stereo-typical image.

Still, I highly doubt that anyone is under the assumption that modern royalty share those same social traits, so don't be too enraged about it.

I didn't realize that the title would be considered politically incorrect. My apologies.

As some of the posters have said, I assumed it would be interesting hearing about the atypical vision of history.

I assure you, I'm not!!!!

I accept the original posters apology for not being aware that the title would be highly politically incorrect in some countries, and to some people.

But you sir, are not so excused.
