The Empire of the Ghouls

Let me add my own voice to the chorus: this adventure rocks. On toast.

If you remember the classic 2e adventure "Kingdom of the Ghouls" from Dungeon 60, "Empire" is just as good and in some cases even better. I wove in elements from "Empire" into a 3.5e conversion of "Kingdom," and the pieces meshed seamlessly.

I've been a patron for all four Open Design projects, and each one has surpassed the one before it. I can't wait to see the Arabian Nights adventure.

Minimum buy-in for Arabian Nights is $25.00. That lets you get the Empire of the Ghouls option for $37.50. However, back orders for Empire expire after 12/31/2007. So you have less than two months to decide....

These Open Design projects work off of the patron funded model. The only way non-patrons can get a copy of Empire of the Ghouls is if they become patrons of a future Open Design project. Once you are a patron you have the option to buy (for an additional fee) any of the previous Open Design projects.*

The Lulu version of the Empire of the Ghouls is also only available to patrons. So if you really want EotG, sign-up for the current OD project, Arabian Nights. Personally I feel like I got my money's worth from the project. Not only do you get input into what goes into the adventure, you also get essays and insight from Wolfgang as the project is made. It really was a great experience.

* As far as I am aware, Steam and Brass, the first Open Design project cannot be bought, even if you become a patron of another Open Design project. It's a long story, but basically at the time the first OD project was set up it was decided that only the original patrons would have access to it and no-one else. Wolfgang has since changed things so that current OD patrons can buy copies of the older OD projects.

I'll note that the initial subscribers to Wolfgang's Kobold Quarterly had an option to buy a copy of Castle Shadowcrag. It's not out of the question for there to be similar options in the future,

Note that Wolfgang has a limit on the number of copies he will sell to non-patrons. At some time the previous projects won't be available (and Steam & Brass was only available to us original patrons).

I subscribed to Open Design last week, and Wolfgang sent me a very friendly email welcoming me to the community. I then purchased my copy of Empire of the Ghouls and received the errata version two days later.

I have to say Empire is one of the nicest 3.5 products I've seen. Is there any possibility of purchasing Castle Shadowcrag? Anywhere? Ever?

All the Ghouls patrons had the option to pick up Shadowcrag. Log in to Open Design, and check out the private post for March 21.
