The Endless Fighter [Ideas] My Players Out!

Erywin

First Post
I have had an idea running around my head for an interesting scene for my current campaign. It takes place in the Mournland (Eberron), as the party journeys through the wasteland they come across an ancient battlefield. Amongst all the death they see a figure fighting off waves of undead, taking hits but never tiring. As the undead fall to the ground more rise up to take their place.

I thought this might be a really cool scene, just don't know how to do it mechanically, basically what I was thinking is a frenzied berserker that never really dies from HP loss. Now, I don't actually allow frenzied berserkers in my campaign but I love the idea of a hero of the last war stuck in an eternal battle in the Mournland.

Thoughts, suggestions? Any way to make a Warforged immune to nonlethal damage?

Cheers,
E

Hm. I was just reading a PrC, I think it's in tome of battle, book of nine swords, that allows a character to fight at negative hit points indefinately. It's a dwarf that, even in it's description, is mentioned as fighting off hordes for days on end.

Give him a magical item (ring of regeneration, maybe?) and something that lets him get rest (an effect that wards off fatigue), and it could work.

All I could think of is the Deepstone Sentinel and I couldn't find the part where they could keep fighting into negative hit points.... I might have missed something.

PS. Wik check your email/junk folder.

Cheers,

I think it's a Crusader (base class) from Bo9S. As long as you keep making a fortitude save DC 10 + hitpoint total below 0 you can continue to fight. A failed save results in instant death...

I haven't read it in awhile but I think that's the basic idea behind that class.

To make this work (so you don't auto fail on a natural 1), you'd need to toss in the Endurance feat and Steadfast Determination? feat (PHBII).

As others have suggested, a crusader from the Book of Nine Swords makes a good starting point. At 17th level, he can select a maneuver from the Devoted Spirit discipline that grants himself the effect of a heal spell if he strikes an opponent with a melee attack. In addition to healing hit point damage and nonlethal damage (halved for being a warforged), heal also removes fatigue and exhaustion. Because of the crusader's maneuver recovery mechanic, he can do this quite often in a fight, possibly once every five rounds or so.

It's not a class ability, it's a specific stance from the Devoted Spirit discipline.

If the 'forged is fighting shadows or other critters that only do ability damage, a warforged maxed out on Warforged Juggernaught PrC levels will never suffer from fatigue, non-lethal damage, or ability damage/drain. It'd only take the hp damage from wights (as its immune to energy drain); but their maximum damage is 5, so by taking the Improved Damage Reduction feat 3 times, it'd never take any damage from the wights (assuming it started w' Adamantine Plating).

The Improved Resiliency feat (Races of Eberron) makes 'forged immune to non-lethal damage.

And of course, most of his levels besides the WJ prc should be in Crusader, from Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords. :D

A crusader with good AC, Stone Power feat, and several Devoted Spirit stances(Martial Spirit) and maneuvers (Crusader's Strike) could fight a horde of weak opponents for a very long time (they'd need to get lucky to do enough damage faster than he can heal it).

Crusader gives a delayed damage pool; use Stone Power for temporary hit points when damage is due to be transfered from the DDP.
Martial Spirit gives a little bit of healing on each hit (Use Aura of Triumph at high levels), and there are several healing strikes, ranging from Crusader's Strike at low levels to the Heal strike that Firelance mentioned at high levels.

A 5th level Warforged (so he doesn't have to stop to sleep or eat) Crusader could do it.

Geoff.
