The Essential Donkeyhorse

I have to say I really like what they did with the new horse build, Donkeyhorse, found in the Essential Useless Items of the Forgotten Games excerpt.

Basically they traded the Mounted combat power (They probably removed Mounted Combat from the Essentials line altogether) for the Orneriness class feature and listed the Donkeyhorse as only costing 8 gold.

Orneriness (Immediate Interrupt , 4 5 6)
Reduce any forced movement by 2 squares)



I think this is a great way to give new players a way to carry their stuff without it costing 75gp for a real horse! Kudos to the designers for this. Great job of giving the Essentials line that "Old School" feel but still maintaining the balance with other horse builds.

I know some of you will think that this new donkeyhorse build will replace your favorite horse and that WotC will not support horses anymore but this just isn't the case. Donkeyhorses and MMI horses can stand together in the same party and eat the same grass without issue!

While a standard horse is best for mounted combat and if dead, a horse is the best familiar for a Necromancer (just can't beat 'em), a donkeyhorse is superior to horses in most other ways.
 




Hehe. That's hilarious. You know, if one of the Essentials books actully has an entry for the mule, I think I would be forced to buy it because of all my mule threads.
