The Essentials Human (wild mass guessing)

Maybe?

The idea is the choice, which humans already got, but other races now get. I don't necessarily see humans getting two just because other races get 'choice'. Humans are still ahead in that regard, and two points on a secondary stat is not as important as some make it out to be.

You're assuming that the "choice" stat is a secondary. Who's to say a race's "fixed" +2 isn't a bonus to some class' secondary stat and between the two "choice" stats one of them is the primary of the given/selected class. Non-Human races now have 3 of 6 stats covered for "primary" making additional classes "more optimal" than they previously had. And even if the other +2 isn't in your secondary stat it's not horrible. The new +2 choice for non-Humans makes them that much more appealing and flexible.

I'm not necessarily saying that Humans should get a second +2 choice stat, but maybe a +1 (e.g. point buy a 13/15, bump it to 14/16) to an off stat to help with MAD?

In a package that has level 1 at-will attack powers for exactly one class...

...so really it would be 'Take a level 1 wizard attack power. Unless you're a wizard... in which case... you're SOL.'

While, yes, the half-elf works when you consider the entire product line, as it stands it, like the phb human, does not actually work within Essentials taken alone... and therefore changes would have to be made.

Well this is wrong. The cleric will have at-will attack powers for one. Two, Half-Elves don't even come in until the second players book so by then Essentails will have the following classes:

--Wizard
--Cleric
--Fighter
--Rogue
--Ranger
--Druid
--Paladin
--Warlock

So far we know one fighter build won't have at-will. I am sure the Half-Elves will be fine.

It's possible the essentials human will not get any thing at all. Much like old Dnd Humans. Other races might be greatly reduced in ability as well.

That leaves the half-elf. But maybe there simply isn't anything for him to pick from some subclasses.

I was thinking of the Knight when reading this and thinking 'they get their extra boost from stances so why would anyone waste a dilletente power on a melee basic attack once per encounter?' ;)

That's simply not going to happen. It would break any semblance of compatibility with existing races.

I'm wondering why everyone sounds so sure there IS any change to races happening. Personally I think they're fine as they are. Regardless of what you do some races are going to be better for certain classes. tossing in flexible stat bonuses doesn't really change that. Every class will still have one 'best' race.

I know as a game designer myself I wouldn't bother. The PHB3 races are not all that popular anyhow and just because they have a flex bonus doesn't mean humans etc need them.

Then there should be no Speculation. Why would they make different racial qualities between the two instances? They will either reprint the races as is or reduce them to stat adjustments and point to the phb for more.

They've stated that they are changing the races, to use PH3 style Stat Bonuses. Meaning (As a guess) Elves are Dex+Wis now, imagine if that were Dex+(Wis or Cha)

Well, they didn't say that, but they hint at it in the Essentials podcast.
At this point everyone pretty much assumes it will happen, but it's not confirmed by anybody in the know AFAIK.
