The Fifth Sepulcher

Psion

Adventurer
The Fifth Sepulchur is the fourth in FFG Legends & Lairs mini-adventures. It is designed for characters of level 12-15.

The premise of the adventure is that the King (or presumably, some other local ruler as is appropriate to your campaign) asks the party to find out what foul presence has been murdering guards in his keep, and of late has kidnapped his daughter.

Warning: spoilers from here on out.

As it turns out, the royal family has a long history of entombing its past members beneath the keep. Somewhere deep in the past of the family was a ruler with the most vile of aspirations. He sought eternal life, and struck a pact with a dark goddess that he would sleep one thousand years. During this time, the pact would create a powerful articat that would be the instrument of the dark goddesses power when he awakens.

That time has come, and to complete the ritual, there must be a sacrifice... a sacrifice which the players must stop.

The current king knows nothing of this ancient pact of his anscestor. As the players explore the royal sepulchures, they begin to peice together the truth of what is happening... and then they must stop it before it is too late.

This is a good adventure. It has dungeon crawl and investigative elements, and has a real sparkle of epic high fantasy to it, and offers a lot of room for future expansion if the PCs fail, or if they follow some tangents in the adventure.

The map and artwork are excellent, which is par for the FFG instant adventures. Where is rises above the pack is with the idea content and other usable material. The scant pages of the adventure are absolutely stuffed, and could easily be the springboard for an epic campaign.

I usually consider $4.00 a bit much for an adventure this small, but considering the depth of campaign usability, it is quite a bargain. If you have a group of high level characters and need an adventure, or even the starter for a campaign, run don't walk to the FLGS and get this!

Edit: After playing it, I am lowering the score to a four. Though it does have some sparkle to it, much of the adventure is straight out dungeon crawls and encounters, and it can take extra prodding by the DM to get the players to invoke the more interesting aspects of the adventure.
