Calling ONB a propaganda mill is a little flattering to Dave. Don't get me wrong, that's what he wants it to be, but he's simply not up to the task. He hasn't put out anything that has any value or significance at all... mostly because he seems to rely entirely on AI to do the writing and then use AI voice acting. That which he does produce is that sort of standard you'd expect from a early teens child first trying their hand at writing to try to be cool, but not really finding enough interest to apply themselves. His latest release called "OPSEC" uses this as his promo image: What follows on the substack is then 5 paragraphs about how OPSEC will be super important in his upcoming thing but talks about like... alien invaders, Lunar Stealth Fighters, space places, military grade firewalls, etc. It reads very much like he just typed words into ChatGPT until he got it and then posted it, complete with an AI generated image (I can't find it via reverse searching) then congratulated himself for doing good work. It's also not clear why he posted this given that it seems to be for what he's calling an audiobook series, where all the people are going to listen about some sort of Men in Black ripoff in a world where we're already doing space travel... but somehow need a super secret organization to protect us from the unknown darkness. It's all phenomenally unworked. Similarly he has a bunch of "cosmic horror stories" that all boil down to "protagonist goes to a haunted house and discovers an ELDRITCH SIGN - what will happen next!?" (I actually got basically a reader's digest version by putting a prompt into Google Gemini) They are in fact, so generic it makes me quite confident that not only has Dave not read any works by the Weird Crew, he hasn't even listened to any of the free audiobooks available or watched any reasonable adaptations of them (like the ones in Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities). So his X nee Twitter account for it is non-stop bigotry, he closest he's come to finding a way to put into his work is a character creation bit from October in which features a character who is "dark-skinned" an has about 83% of the average stats you'd expect from his system, with no particularly high stats and low will, sanity and health. But, I only notice that really because I am a huge nerd and I am looking out for that sort of thing, the casual reader won't care and won't stay long enough to learn to care. After all, all the main generative AI models use OpenAI and when you ask it to add racism to a story: Largely he's screaming into the void and doing the delusional newbie thing of cycling through ideas, posting a few bits of them and waiting to see which one generates massive public attention - wilfully ignorant of the over saturated market and thinking he's somehow avoiding his past by being a master of disguise.
