I'm looking to shuffle two classes together without making them a gestalt; the runethane from AE and the Binder from the Tome of Magic.

Start with a Runethane.
Strip out his minor spell list.
Add ability to bind at class level.
Vestige level tracks with the old spell level (1st at 1st, 2nd at 4th, &c.)
Add Suppress Sign at 4th level.

Keep HD, Skills, Skill Points and weapon / armor profiecencies as per runethane.

Would this be a balanced class? I was thinking of adding in Augment Pact, but that may be too much.

Could you remind me what the Runethane gets aside from spellcasting? (I've got AE around here somewhere, but digging it out is harder than typing... :) )

In general, the spell levels are below what a full-caster gets, and he tops out at 8th level spells (at 21st level?) which is just perfect for Vestiges, since they also top out at 8th level. He'll be a tiny bit behind a regular Binder, but whatever -- many a normal Binder will make use of lower-level Vestiges regularly.

Pretty much just runes and spells.

Each rune can be inscribed once an hour. The runethane can have one point of runes active per level. you gain knowledge of one rune per level and each rune has a specific effect.

Least runes - 1 pt. - 0-1st level spell.
Advanced - 2 pts. - 2-3rd level spell.
Greater - 3 pts. - 4-5th level spell.
True - 4 pts. - 6-7th level spell
Ultimate - 5 pts? - Customizable per 1-7th level spells.

At 5th level you can boost a rune to have double effect for double points.

Don't forget: Triggered runes are activated on touch. On 10th, you get password, so you can touch your runed objects/surfaces without triggering them. Which can be useful.

Cheers, LT.
