I'm amazed at the level of hyperbole being displayed by people who want to justify not being patient enough to wait a week. So, calling the leaker a thief is wrong and is somehow similar to calling him/her a pedophile or terrorist, but calling him a hero is okay?

A hero? I know that the poll isn't very granular and doesn't offer a lot of choices, but even the most self-justified parasite amongst you must see that he's still closer to the douchebag side of the scale than the hero side, even if you don't consider him a douchebag.

A hero? You have to be kidding me...

A hero? Wow.

I can shoot it down, and I'm not even Scott Rouse.

Watch:

The idea that people will read the early leak pdfs then order 4e when they otherwise would not requires that these same people would NOT have read the actual players handbook and then bought it. It implies that leaked pdfs have a unique ability to convince people of the quality of their contents, a quality not possessed by actual books. It also implies that early leaks do more for sales than later leaks by fans who scanned the files.

All of that is of course absurd.

No it is not in competitive business. What counts sometimes too is the rate you make clients -timing is very important most of the time.

But how is this a bullet? It can still very well be an alpha promotion, like Pathfinder say. And MM is the most dependant on the numeric details btw.
Yes, that's what it was...an alpha promotion. Nice call...

And his employer too... I seriously doubt that printing company is going to see much more business.

Why do you rolleyes? Do you think that Paizo who does an alpha pro is out of their minds?
No, but I think that your theory that it was an alpha Monster Manual, a week before release, is idiotic...at best.

Those who ordered 4e because the leaked pdfs attracted their interest would almost certainly have had the same experience in another context from a different document. Either a friend's PHB, or a later leaked pdf would have done it.

A leak was inevitable. What made this person a particularly bad was the timing, and the fact that they were in a position of trust.

This here...

In case you did not notice a Wotc representative came here and said so. Alpha, beta I do not care: it is semantics. What matters is that he said it is not usable and perfect as the actual product.
Pathfinder makes a free PDF promotion. I used the word Alpha to make a connection among the two. Sorry if you find this idiotic...
Besides PDFs generally are "alphas" in a certain degree by terms of usability. You still need the books if you want to play.

No, what I found idiotic (and I'll try to say it slowly) is that you would imply that it could be an inside job AND that an alpha-promo was part of that inside job a week before the book is released. Not to mention that it's already printed and in stores (or on the way).

So, if it were an alpha version, it certainly wasn't a promotion from WotC. They would have done that long ago, in order to get feedback from people regarding said alpha.

I understand that some people need their conspiracy theories to help them sleep better at night and if you want to think that it was a WotC-promoted activity, whatever (NOTE: I'm not stating where you stand on this, but that your post did imply it), but to suggest that it was some sort of alpha-promotion at this stage is ridiculous.

If it was an alpha version, then the thief took the wrong copy...

EDIT: Also, xechnao, I don't know you well enough to be an ass, so please take my condescending tone and apply it to those who would believe that WotC would purposely leak an alpha-promo after the books had already been printed. If you were just putting forth a theory and don't actually believe this, then my tone was not meant for you...if you do believe this, then I'm sure you get the idea.
