The Half-Elf Must Be Nervous

So, any speculation on how the Half-Elf will be changed up? Or if it will, for that matter?

I can't imagine that the "steal an at-will" ability would even work as well in an Essentials-only game as it did in the PHB. Which is to say, hardly at all.

In Heroes of the Fallen Lands, the Cleric (Warpriest) and Wizard (Mage) still have at-will powers. In the next book, at least two of the other classes (Druid and Warlock) are also virtually certain to have at-will powers. That would be enough classes for a Half-Elf to get his Dilettante Power from.

Particularly since the Half Elf got a huge boost from the Essentials rules. Sorcerer half-elves can use their dagger/staff with their warlock power!

While it's fantastic that Dilettante will work with both old classes and a few of the new ones, I guarantee the new Half-Elf will have a different racial feature. The human has a new option because the old feature doesn't work as well with Essentials. Same deal with the Half-Elf.

The question is, what would be fun and Half-Elfy?

Not the same deal at all. Several of the new Essentials classes don't have at-will attack powers, so a human can't pick one from their class if they're one of those classes. No matter what class you're playing, *other* classes always exist that have at-will attack powers for a half-elf to pick from. I agree that that they still might change it for people that want something simpler, but there is no impediment to it working fine with just the materials in Essentials.
