The scumbag is the guy who wrote the virus. The vector by which you received it is probably just some ordinary schmoe who got the virus himself, which spread to everyone in his address book.

Worms are way nastier though. You just get them. If you have a bad port open, bingo, it's in.

What defines a 'bad port'? I use a firewall program and I know it has the ability to block certain ports but honestly, I don't know that much about ports and which ones are OK to leave open and which should be closed. Any advice?
