I don't see why there would be any alignment consequences. It was wartime, and all Nwm did was kill enemy soldiers. Not like he killed 800 women and children. Would it be any different if he had killed 800 orc raiders while they were encamped? (Though orcs are chaotic evil, while more likely, these guys are mostly lawful neutral) IMO, I see no problem with what he did.

Anyone who has any thoughts about the effects of high-level characters should read the above account, truly Epic stuff - and without the book..!

The morality question is a non-issue. Does someone want to claim that it is unfair attacking an opponent just because you can beat them.

An army is...an army. They are presumed to be able to defend themselves under every real world code of chivalry.

It only becomes touchy if one refuses to accept an offer of surrender. That's why they had lots of rules about besieging fortified positions in the Middle Ages, i.e. "Give me 60 days and free conduct for my messenger to my lord. If he cannot march here and offer battle before 120 days from today, I will surrender the city to you."

That's precisely why I question the need for such a large "epic" book. My campaign is about the same level as this one right now, and it strikes me as entirely "epic."

That said, yet another thumbs up for the Deva's proposed exchange.. :)
