The Horseman (Questions, etc.)

I have a few questions regarding The Horsemen of The Apocalypse.

1. Is Thanatos actually DEATH, a servant of DEATH, or a proxy of some kind? What exactly is he?

2. Is Thanatos a Baern?...or is he an Altraloth?

3. Is Thanatos an alternate name for Charon? If not, how do they relate to each other, if at all?

4. Do the other 3 horsemen serve Thanatos or are they collaborative? ...or are they enemies?

5. What happens if you permanently kill a horseman? Do they get replaced?

6. Do the horsemen answer to Hades or other death gods, or are they kinda their own thing?

7. What are their horses? Are they nightmares or unique yugoloths? How closely bonded are they to their riders?

8. Are there "fallen" horsemen? Ones that failed at their responsibilities? What would they be like?

9. °computerized voice° How do you feel?

I have a few questions regarding The Horsemen of The Apocalypse.

Fire away amigo.

1. Is Thanatos actually DEATH, a servant of DEATH, or a proxy of some kind? What exactly is he?

Thanatos is a Death God and the Highest representation of Death within the Physical Universe. Higher forms of Death exist. The Marvel/DCU concepts of Death Lady Death/Nekron are CR 100 (Divine Rank 22) in my system. They 'represent' Death as it exists beneath the 4th Wall (of Infinity). The Literal Concept of Death would be a 10D being likely CR 150 or so though.

2. Is Thanatos a Baern?...or is he an Altraloth?

He may well be a Baernoloth - I am using the term Baern for something else in 5E though - 4-dimensional Psychic 'Indigo Children' created by the Invincible Goddess Durga.

3. Is Thanatos an alternate name for Charon? If not, how do they relate to each other, if at all?

Thanatos/Nerull is a greater god, Charon is at best a Lesser God. Charon might be the Avatar of Thanatos (GM's decision).

4. Do the other 3 horsemen serve Thanatos or are they collaborative? ...or are they enemies?

I think they would be collaborative. Perhaps some kind of Trumpet holds sway over them and can summon them if needed for the 'End Times'.

5. What happens if you permanently kill a horseman? Do they get replaced?

I would say they get replaced. Though the exact time-frame is open to the GM.

6. Do the horsemen answer to Hades or other death gods, or are they kinda their own thing?

Yes the Hades quote (whether literal or no) is an interesting one - again open for GM interpretation.

7. What are their horses? Are they nightmares or unique yugoloths? How closely bonded are they to their riders?

Presumably Legendary Nightmares (Legendary Animal template is in the book) with some unique traits while being used by the Horseman.

8. Are there "fallen" horsemen? Ones that failed at their responsibilities? What would they be like?

Why not, sounds like a cool concept. Rule of cool is always in effect - if it sounds epic...use it.

Like I am stuck in a temporal anomaly...with nowhere near enough hours in the day.
