The Jade Frontier, part 2 (DM: THB, Judge: Lord Sessadore)

The stairs lead down a level, depositing you in a square room of sturdy construction. It is a little curious; most cellars don't have branching paths, while most mausoleums are clearly identifiable as such. More than anything else, it just looks like someone decided to build one floor of the keep beneath the earth.

The passageways to the east and south continue into the darkness, but around the corner to the west you notice a faint, flickering light, like that of a torch.

"Cover your lights guys and wait here a second, I shall see what there is to see." Whispers Chey as she stalks off.
She pulls the shadows around her like a cloak as she approaches the corner. Hugging the wall, the tiefling slowly peeks round taking note of everything she sees.

Though rather reluctant to stand in the dark, Firete extinguishes her sunrod and flattens herself against the wall. If you meet anything, call out, Firete whispers as Chey passes her.

Miranna stood, wary and tense, as she waited for Cheysuli to check on the strange light. Without the comforting (if dimmed) light of the sunrod, the darkness of the place seemed to take on a nearly physical weight, like a smothering wet blanket. Surely that had to be an illusion- but it made the waiting an even more uncomfortable experience...

[sblock=ooc]Sorry about the delays. Car trouble combined with an "exciting" new work schedule have really just up and murdered my free time. However, things are falling back into routine again, so hopefully I'll be able to be more responsive from here on out.[/sblock]

[sblock=Chey]The passage to the west quickly hooks up to the north, and soon after that it widens into a narrow chamber. There are doors to the north, east, and west. You can see light coming out from under the northern door, and you hear voices which you suspect are goblins. There also appears to be a stain on the ground leading to the north door, but the poor lighting makes it impossible to identify.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Am traveling for the next two days and so might be out of touch. Yishim can use a light spell to allow us to examine the stain, and I suggest we hit the Northern door to deal with the goblin threat before continuing down another passageway[/sblock]

Cheysuli creeps back to the group and relates what she saw.

When Yishim suggests using his light spell to better see the stain, Chey nods; "If the stain is fresh it may be a potential clue as to where to go in this keep.
As long as we're quiet, and clever on the approach I'm sure we can deal with these greenskins easily. It may be beneficial to somehow draw them out of their room into an ambush in a location we have scouted, assuming that there isn't another way for them to get out of there of course. What do you all think?

It is a lot more prudent to fight an enemy on a ground of your choosing rather than his, Firete said thoughtfully, but I wish I paid more attention when my mentor was casting illusions...Her voice trailed off. If the door is open and I am in range and not distracted, I can pull enemies towards us. Then we can retreat perhaps until we are in a better position. How is that for a plan?

"That is certainly a handy skill to have, especially if they have a leader of some kind who is surrounded by guards. Though unless you can use it to pull the door open from a distance, I doubt it would make a good opening move for an ambush... Is that something you could do?" Cheysuli asks the half-elf thoughtfully.

"Bait is what we need, if there is no means of creating pretend bait with magic or smarts, I would be willing to volunteer." She looks around at the group with that excited look in her eye that you are starting to get used too.

Cannot Yishim pull the door open form a distance? Or....She smiles thoughtfully. Does anyone have any rope? She looks through her pack. Actually, I do. Firete unsheathes her dagger and gets the rope out. I propose this: I tie the rope to the dagger and throw it against the door, we then pull the rope to open the door...yet this will only work if the rope holds on the dagger and the door opens outward. She considers a moment. If you're in favour of this plan, then I don't mind if someone more skilled throws the dagger, I am not much of a marksman.

[sblock=TwoHeads]So, does the door open out and can we open it by pulling on the rope? I really would like to see if we can roll well enough for this crazy scheme to work.[/sblock]
