D&D 5E The Kalarian Precipice - Chapter Four

Otiroth

First Post
Otiroth still wavered on his feet a bit... but Carthum's magic helped. A lot. He'd swallow and manage a smile in response- which became real enough. "Brave and foolhardy. That's me," he echoed.

He'd let Dain take a look as well.... but the ranger was right. They could not linger here too long.

"I don't think... would be much good... to turn back. The imp must've come from that passageway... J-Jeovanna, Dain, did you get a good look at the other path? Is it something we could sneak through, with one of Metea's illusions?"

He smiled at her, at least. She came through yet again.

With the healing touch of Carthum's Suru-empowered hand, Otiroth's wound appears to stabilize. This is good news, as not all poisons are as accommodating as this! Dain's inspection of the injury brings little more to light, other than the need for the area to be well protected, and either left to heal naturally or sped up a little through magical means. It hurts, but Otiroth will live!

Annit offers the barbarian a smile as she joins the guard duty of the western exit.

"Is everyone alright?" She asks. "That sounded intense. Listen with me if you will, I think we are not yet alone. Should we check?"

The rogue isn't wrong. There are sounds of stirring down there, in the red coal pock-marked space, and they aren't just the sounds of a raven in retreat.

Metea

First Post
Metea sidled ever closer to Otiroth, were that possible. "Come on... we'll get that clean, and in a splint, and you'll barely notice it's there."

She'd wrap her tail around Otiroth. She had this! Well, she had a spare shirt in her pack, which was probably clean- and if it weren't, Otiroth could clean it. They'd manage this in no time!

"I could probably create a cloud of smoke around us. Or fog. Hm, perhaps someday, I would be able to make us look like that imp and his friends..."

She should really focus on Otiroth!

Carthum One-Tusk: Four sides

Carthum returned to his pack. Dug around in it before he found one of the healer's kits that had been given to him by the church. A cautious eye towards materials, meant that maybe he could safely take some extra padding without risking its usefulness too much...

"Here, Metea. Wrap the wound in this first," he'd toss his sister a couple pads that appeared to be made out of some kind of cloth and plant fiber weave. "It will wick away any pus."

Maybe that would get her tail off of him?

They should probably check on Jeovanna and Annit... and the dwarf.

Jeovanna

First Post
Jeovanna: Four sides

Jeovanna is silent for a moment in response to Annit. She holds her breath. Listens. Focuses everything on the noises beyond.

"It is waking them up," Jeovanna murmurs. It is just a guess, but what else could it be? "The creatures in the webs."

A slow nod. "We move with the pack behind us," she murmurs. But she had left something back on the battlefield, anyway. She wants a better look, before she returns to the others.

The barbarian steps lightly for a woman of her size, retracing steps that she and Dain had already crept upon. She wants a better look. Four eyes are better than two, and she would not mind Annit and her bow at her back.

Dain

Dain watched Carthum work between looking around for danger. "We need to hurry." He reminded them. "This crossroads is a poor place to rest."

Going through the spider lair would be risky. The path after the evil rat bird might be better.

Otiroth

First Post
Otiroth: Four sides

Suddenly, Otiroth felt much better!

The sling would do for now, and Otiroth nodded at the suggestion. "Let's take a look," he agreed, as so far, none of them had gotten eyes on that other path.

They could try and creep over- if the sure-footed ranger didn't want to take a look solo- but Otiroth was still a bit unsteady, so hardly all that sneaky...

Although Otiroth's injury isn't a typical flesh wound, Carthum's medical training still comes in handy.

Old Varillo Kalitus, the wisest surgeon in Suru's church, gave rare lessons to the younger recruits in the ways of nontraditional healing. Not so much spells and ancient arts, but direct physical measures that might save a life. The teachings were always entertaining, if not a little gruesome, and Varillo wasn't your typical priest of the faith either. The elder demanded discipline and focus from his students, and wasn't afraid of dishing out punishment for non-attentiveness. A jab with a staff to the back of the head usually kept the more mischievous of students in line.

Where Var obtained his "specimens" was often a dinnertime debate among the students. Body parts, tissue, bones and sometimes venomous creatures. Carthum listened well! As many different poisons as creatures to deliver them, and the first few moments of physical reaction often held the key to recovery. The priest has acted swiftly. The wound will surely heal, and the travel of poison throughout the sorcerer's body has been prevented. Perhaps, even old Var would smile at his work.

Meanwhile, Annit nods respectfully to the barbarian. She wants to look further? Then so be it. Bow at the ready, she walks by Jeovanna's side with silent steps. The barbarian certainly has a kind of grace to her, and it is inspiring to see such a hefty woman move with the cunning of a cat... or hyena on the prowl. Not wanting to make a fool of herself, Annit too keeps the sound levels down as they proceed.

The turn to the right as before, and the area of stone pillars and red-hot holes in the floor awaits. Standing at the entrance to the area it appears that little has changed. Then they hear it.

Clickyclick.

Something is definitely out there in the dark, beyond the range of the torch. Then the sound stops.

"It might have seen us," Annit whispers.

Metea

First Post
Metea didn't seem to want to let Otiroth out of her sight... sure, her feathery tail couldn't deflect rat bites or demon claws, but she felt better with him by her side! At least until he got that weird look out of his eyes...

"Come on," she said, "let those two take a look... we shouldn't get too far apart. Do you want to take a look at the monsters? Will that help you feel better?"

A quick look at the spider at least. If it had also been a shapeshifting creature... was some hint of what it really was in its horrible slashed up carapace? Worth a peek! So long as Otiroth didn't go stumbling down one of those tunnels unprotected!
