The Laddybuck (or Lassybuck)- HALFLINGS ONLY!

the Jester

Legend
Okay, for those of you unfamiliar with my campaign, a tallfellow halfling in Cydra looks like a human child, and they are infamous for their trickery, mischief and thieving ways. Think all the worst stereotypes of gypsies, mixed with the appearance of a young kid...

Anyway, this is a prc devoted to the tallfellow who wants to play this up.

Laddybuck (or Lassybuck)

Cydra overflows with tales of tallfellow halfling scoundrels fooling the big folk into thinking the tallfellows are children, then taking full roguish advantage of them. Indeed, the very expression “to pull the wool over one’s eyes” comes from a tallfellow story. A laddybuck (or lassybuck) is a tallfellow who has focused himself strongly on his deceptive abilities and his child-like appearance and develops amazing abilities based on them..

Most laddybucks and lassybucks begin as rogues, though any class can become one. The main requirement is that of race; other than that, only a certain level of focus is required.

CLASS FEATURES

Weapon and Armor Proficiency:
A laddybuck gains no new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Child’s Demeanor (Ex): A laddybuck gets a +4 competence bonus on Bluff or Disguise checks made to imitate a human child.

Blend into the Background (Ex): Children are often ignored or overlooked by other humans. Sometimes the laddybuck can go places he shouldn’t and get away with it because of his child-like appearance. The laddybuck makes a Bluff check, opposed by each other creature’s Sense Motive or Will save (whichever is better). Creatures successfully bluffed will ignore his presence for 1d4 minutes. If the laddybuck attempts to blend into the background in a highly security conscious environment, opposing rolls may well benefit from a circumstance bonus (perhaps as high as +20 for a very tense, heavily secured area). The laddybuck cannot blend into the background in combat or other similar situations, and this ability has no effect on creatures that are not of the Humanoid type. Humanoids prone to eat human children are not affected by this ability either.

Bounce Back (Su): Much like a child, a laddybuck can bounce back from injury, sickness or fatigue. As a full-round action the laddybuck may cast remove disease, cure moderate wounds, or lesser restoration on himself, or he may eliminate a fatigued condition or reduce an exhausted condition to fatigued. These abilities all function only on the laddybuck himself. As he advances, he may bounce back more times per day.

Uncanny Dodge (Ex): The laddy buck retains his dex bonus to AC even when caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible opponent. If he already has uncanny dodge, he instead gains improved uncanny dodge.

Slippery Lil Devil (Ex): A laddybuck is all too aware of the dangers involved in getting in trouble and has learned to slip away from trouble. He gains a +6 competence bonus on Escape Artist checks.

Can’t Catch Me (Ex): Beginning at 5th level, a laddybuck can put on a burst of speed once per day, essentially gaining a +15’ insight bonus to speed. This burst of speed lasts 1 round/class level, and as he becomes more skilled the laddybuck may use this ability more times per day.

Nondetection (Su): A laddybuck’s aura is almost impossible to discern. He acts as if under the influence of a nondetection spell at all times.

Slippery Mind (Ex): If a laddybuck is affected by an enchantment spell or effect and fails his saving throw, he can attempt it again one round later at the same DC. He only gets one extra attempt to escape the effect.

Improved Squeezing (Ex): A laddybuck can share an ally’s square without either of them suffering any ill effect. He can also squeeze into small spaces as if his size category was one smaller (so, typically, a laddybuck can squeeze into spaces tight enough for a Tiny creature). This ability also increases the laddybuck’s skill at wriggling out of trouble, and his competence bonus on Escape Artist checks increases to +10.

Cute Kid (Su): Once per day per point of charisma bonus a laddybuck can attempt to entrance up to one human or other human-friendly humanoid creature per class level, no two of whom may be further than 20’ apart, totaling no more than the laddybuck’s own hit dice, with his ultimate cuteness. Unless they make saving throws (DC 20 + cha bonus) they will become fascinated by the laddybuck and will seek to engage in inane conversation, pinch his cheeks and tousle his hair, but will otherwise be rather oblivious. Fascinated creatures suffer a -4 penalty to skill checks made as reactions (such as Spot and Listen checks). The laddybuck may maintain the fascination effect for up to one minute per point of charisma, and may continue the duration by spending another use of the cute kid ability for the day.

Wail of the Brat (Su): Once per day, the laddybuck may wail at incredible volume, distracting all humans and human-friendly humanoids within 100’. Any such creatures much succeed at Will saves (DC 20 + cha bonus) or rush to try to help. As with the blend into the background ability, circumstance bonuses may apply to the save in security-conscious situations. Each intervening closed door counts as 10’ of distance, and each wall counts as 20’. The rush to help lasts for 2d4 rounds, though the laddybuck may well be able to use his Bluff skill to increase this by tricking the respondents into some course of action or other.

I love this!!! I already have people wanting to try it out.

I have a question though. The Quintessdential Sorcerer from Mongoose has stat revisions for playing children or child prodigies. I'm thinking that such a chuild might be able to use this PrC, but what happens when they grow up? Do they lose the bonuses, or can they be converted somehow?

It seems.... It seems like you've got an idea and made it in to something else and stretched the idea over it.

For instance most places you aren't suposed to be in a child wouldn't either. And escaping easily seems like something you've sliped in, cos it's handy. Also I've never know a child bounce back, no more then adults.

If I had to change it I would simply remove the idea of the halfling being a child, the rest could be worked in, even the wail could be linked to the banshee like you said with the gypsies you mentioned at the start.

However I doubt You'll want to do that so I would change it from a halflingthat looks like a child but acts a lot like an adult (getting into places, getting grappled), to a halfing that looks like a child and gets away with things like a child. Like begging for money, flesh out the charm ability, make it less magic and more charming.

Also if you ignore all of the above 'cos it just isn't what you planned, what about "Youth of the young" so they can stay young or something.

You could use the 'Bounce Back' ability to delay the effects of fatigue, sickness, etc. This could simulate a child's near boundless energy

(and if you think I don't know what I'm talking about, try teaching about 20-some kids between 6 and 12 the basics of some martial art. They'll blow your mind with questions as well as give you a good workout chasing them).
