Congrats Le on the rankings!
I would agree with the Grump. I really enjoyed the classes. They did a great job of defining some of the archtypes you think about, but can be hard to fashion cobbling together a multiclass character. And after seeing Unorthodox Barbarians, I really think these lines are worth looking into further.
I agree with AG that the gunpowder rules weren't what I was looking for. But neither were his. Auld Grump's rules are a bit too advanced, technology wise.
I agree with you Le that I want guns to be a one-shot-and-you-toss-them feel. Reloading is something done out of combat. My inspiration and desire is from the Three Musketeers (the books). There the pistol was used as they closed and then they switched to swords. Their servants kept extra loaded pistols on hand if needed. No one re-loaded a gun though.
But with that in mind, I want something simple! But Deadly! And I don't mind misfire rules. I would encourage a (simple!) set to mimick my conception of early uses of firearms. But I think the damage needs to be stronger to encourage better use.
For Unorthodox Pirates, I am not sure Le, why my scurvey dog in the crow's nest wouldn't have a crossbow rather than a brace of pistols.
