This is the way I am leaning as well, that Acer is the "definitive" lich.

But players were more likely to encounter (and much more likely to survive) his body-double, as depicted on the cover:

Your link doesn't work.

In anycase, the fake Acer is just fine, helps the other all adventure work and thematically does not actually negate the real Acer elsewhere.
