The "Lost" Planescape Sigil Book

Erik Mona

Adventurer
Journey back with me to 1996. TSR was in a holding pattern with "printing problems," and a number of books were announced that never ended up coming out.

One of these, as I recall, was YET ANOTHER sourcebook for Planescape's City of Sigil. I want to say that it was called something like "The Guide to the Cage" (not "In the Cage", that one came out), but I'm at home sick and don't have access to my old catalogues.

Anyone care to help me out with this? I need to know everything there is to know about this bad boy, or at least everything that was announced about it.

Thanks!

If I recall correctly (and we're talking about the same product) the book you're refering to was in the works at TSR when it was decided to cancel the Planescape line. Much of the text that had already been written for the book however was reworked and placed into the Faction War adventure as an intro-piece elaborating on the various distinct neighbourhoods of Sigil. In that sense, the material wasn't really "lost" and did in fact see print, albeit in the book which effectively closed the door on the setting. :\

It was going to be called A Guide to the Cage and written by Zeb Cook. Most of the material that was indeed written (but not used) was incorporated into Faction War. (Faction War, although an adventure, has a sizable source material section.)

So basically, it's an unpublished book that was indeed mostly published.

Regarding City of Sin, one might be able to mention something about this, having play-tested a fight against a CR 25 Aberration from it, but the playtesting agreements being what they are... Well, one has to shut up now and again.

Can't get a better source than Monte. Hooray!
We can't all be Monte. :(

I've also heard mention of an unpublished graphic novella called Dead Gods written by Monte which was intended to complement the adventure he wrote of the same name. Hey Monte, any chance I could get a look at the script? Any other unpublished cookbooks you got lying around? :)

If I had it, you could. But sadly, somewhere between Lake Geneva and Renton, it disappeared. Gone forever. Too bad, too, I was really happy with it.

Regarding City of Sin, Erik, send me an email and let me know what you want to know.
