The main problem I have with Kenzer's Geanavue

Yeah you can take what you want from Bluffside, it can work on all levels and I hope we have catered for that within the city..

I'm not going to knock Geanavese, but I don't think its the kind of city I would go for, though think it was a brave step to go along the line of the city they have here.... well going from what I have read in the posts

Well, Kaptain. I did not read the book yet (since the shops over here don't have it yet). But to some things you wrote:

- Romans had public water-toilets on every corner of the city. They were supervised by cleaning slaves.

- I got the impression that your players want to meet Mr. Hack and Mr. Slash there. That's not Geanavue, all right. But if you are looking for intrigues, treasure hunts, city life, bright lights, and your average war between neighbors... You are right there.

- You said you need to put a lot of work in it to make it work for your players. I can understand that, Kenzer products usually took a lot of work. But that's what I like, the stuff inspires me. It gives me a lot of ideas I can flesh out.

- Dwarves and gnomes as cityguards. Same in Zoa. Those are mainly fugitives from Kalamar. Fits the political background of the southern Rea Bay.
 


I just find it kind of amusing that you find a Lawful Good city that's near Utopic to be dull and impossible to accept, but you have no trouble accepting the opposite extreme.

This discussion has actually made me want to go out and get Geanavue, based on it's description. But I might wait for the Kalamar Player's Guide first.

I have not so much trouble accepting it, as finding it an interesting place to adventure...
 

Bluffside is 144 pages with over 100 POI's and over 150 fully fleshed out NPC's, new races, classes, domains, skills, and more here is our write up:

Unfortunately, I lost all my enthusiasm for Bluffside after reading in another post (by the book's proofreader) how it is filled with such wacky and colorful NPCs as "Carl, the Gray Ooze," "Kiki McGurk" and a polymorphed white dragon who spends his days getting sloshed at the bar.

I am now, officially, afraid... Very afraid! :(

Carl the Gray Ooze and company are not what I am looking for in a fantasy game. I find it hard to believe that anyone in their right mind would, but to each their own. YMMV. I'll still give it a look, but my expectations are now lower than the time I waited in line to see Leo in THE BEACH, or J-Lo in THE CELL. Of course, I ended up liking both those films... :rolleyes:
