THE MATRIX: Ghosts of Tomorrow

"Well, we've got to find this Agent White, anyhow; if he's an ally, we can keep him in the Construct, I guess. If he's an enemy, well, with him bottled up in the Construct, that's one less Agent in the Matrix, I guess. I'm game, of course," Veritas says, somewhat resignedly. He is not too eager to stick his head into this situation, but if even an Agent could see the Truth...it would go a long way toward restoring his faith in humanity.

"Never trust an Agent."

Spiral's soft voice barely carries to everyone in the room, but his pale blue eyes are full of intensity. He frowns as he stares at the lifeless drone.

"If we find this Agent, it's going to be us or him. That's the way it always is. Mark my words."

Spiral sighs and absently runs a hand over his cropped black hair.

"But if Codename thinks this mission is legit enough to send us out, then I'm ready to go. We've been getting bored just sitting around out here anyway, right?"

He shrugs slightly and turns to head back to the main deck, quietly speaking over his shoulder as he does so.

"Let me know when it's time to go. I'm ready whenever you are."

Spiral walks out of the cargo bay, muttering to himself with a shake of his head, "As ready as anybody can be to go Agent hunting, anyway."

Enter the Matrix (tm)

You materialize in the kitchen of an abandoned apartment. On the counter, a rusty old spin-dial telephone rests in its decay, chips of flaked red paint scattered around it.

beep beep beep

Ferret answers his phone. "Okay, operator here. You're in the Old Town district, about three blocks from where Agent White was when we sent you in; don't know if he's still there. The adress of the lot was 2409 North Street. Over the past few hours, he's been making his way steadily west. If you find him, just get him to an exit, and mission accomplished.

"Good luck."

"Right. Thanks, Bug." Augustine adjusts his white clerical collar in a move that allows him to check that various lethalities around his person are in the right place and easy to reach. "We ready to go?" he asks the others, donning a pair of sunglasses. "It goes without saying to keep a look out."

Ferret nods.

"Cheers," Ferret says, "Catcha on the flip side."

Ferret chuckles and puts away the phone.

"Last known position of target was 2409 North Street, if he's not there he's likely gone west," he summarises, checking his vest and weapons, "Lets try to bring him out intact."

Ferret takes point, staying alert as they start towards the address.

"Well, how 'bout I make first contact with the guy?" he proposes.

"Personally, I think we should worry about bringing ourselves out intact. Let the Agent fend for himself."

Casually adjusting his jacket as he walks, Spiral follows Ferret toward the objective, his eyes relentlessly scanning their surroundings from behind his shades.

"I just hope there are no surprises waiting for us..."

"I wouldn't count on no trouble, we're not the only ones after White."
Getting comfortable in his trench coat, Path puts his shades on.

Veritas adjusts the pistol at his belt and resettles the knife in its ankle-sheath. Unlike the others, he wears no shades; his strange, pale eyes stare steadily around, barely seeming to blink. His gaze is knowing, almost uncomfortably so.

He takes in the sights of the typical city; the litter in the streets, the dirty tenements and high rises crowding each other for space in the skyline, the dark, sometimes dangerous alleyways, and the people bustling here and there, laughing and talking. Poor fools. Sometimes it almost seemed kinder to Veritas to let them continue on in their dream-life, blissfully unaware of the Truth.

Minds are neither vessels to be filled, nor fires to be lit, but sockets to be unplugged, Veritas thinks ironically.

"Shall we?" he says, gesturing toward 2409 North Street.

Back in business!

[oodm: Saw Reloaded today. Sweet! Morpheous with a sword = awesome.]

***

2409 Northstreet is located around where Old Town fades into the central area. This, you note, is not a good thing--there are very few exits downtown. There are other aspects of the area that you also note to be 'not good things.'

For one, Bug failed to describe 2409 North Street in its entirity. It is quite a large building. Scratch that, a HUGE building. A towering skyscraper of at least sixty floors, the mirror glass panelled monolith sits incongrouous amid a plethora of smaller establishments.

Atop the buidling, you can see mounted machine guns, and resting chopper. Military installation. Thanks for being complete, Operator. Its not likely that White has left the building, and if he had, probably not by his own choice.
