Based on my thread about renting magic items, I created this little magic item as an interesting form of collateral holding.
The Mind Safe
A mind safe is a 1 cubic foot box with no visible openings of any kind. The box has a golden shean to it, and three buttons on its left side. When the top button is pressed, the box will accept a new passkey to open it. The user simply states a condition for the box to open. The condition could be a password, a special object placed on the box, a specific person touching the box, or a time limit. If a special object or person is used, they must be touching the box when the passkey is set.
The second button allows the user to set an alternate condition for the box to open. The third button sets the box to recieve information. The user states a specific question as he places the box to his forehead. The mind safe records the answer to that question mentally as long as the user is willing and has the answer to the question. The answer could be a word, a picture, or a complex thought.
Once the mind safe has information it becomes a bright red color and buttons 1 and 2 become inactive. When a person gives the appropriate passkey, the mind safe mentally transmits the information to that person. The information inside the safe is lost and it returns to its golden color.
Divinations cannot obtain the information from the box, and if the box is breached or destroyed the information inside is lost.
