The Missing Dragons

Personally I think it would be better if the purple dragon was made a 'true' species instead of a crossbreed, this makes more sense as neither of it's parent species have 'keen' claws. Also for the 'keen' claws the dragon should have the following ability:

Augmented Criticals (Ex):[/i] A purple dragon that attacks with it's claws score a threat on a natural roll of 18-20 and deals triple damage on a successfull critical.

This makes it just a little more dangerous... And badass dragons are good. :D

The other two dragons should also be 'true' species of course.

As for the breathweapon? I don't know.

as a matter of personal preference, i don't like any of them as crossbreeds. :D of course, both articles make them out to be crossbreeds. i think i'll go with a statement in there that suggests they *may* be crossbreeds, rather than stating it as a matter of fact.

Sounds like a plan.
By the way if I where to give a dragon a breathweapon consisting of a line of pressurised sand. (I.e. a sand blaster... :D) what type of damage would it deal?

Nice, then we can stop worrying about that dragon. Now I'm playing with the Purple myself, and have run into three little snags...

1. What subtype should it have?
2. What immunity/ies should it have?
3. What Kind of damage does it's breathweapon do? (I'm leaning towards electrical or force damage, with those who fail the save being blinded for one round per age category of the dragon.)

Also I need replacement ideas for the following spell-like abilities:

Predict Weather (young)
Affect Normal Fires (juvenile)
Fire Charm (adult)

Now, anyone got any ideas?

Endure Elements (young)
Produce Flame (juvenile)
Wall of Fire (adult)

The breath weapon can be electrical and force (Since theres a half fire half force one out there).

Will that work.

that particular yellow dragon is not the same (as far as i know) as the dragon from this article. the one you mention is from the forgotten realms, draconomicon. for the sake of preventing confusion, i was going to list these entries as
Dragon, Salt (Yellow)
Dragon, Sodium (Orange)
Dragon, Energy (Purple)

i do beleive FR also introduced a purple dragon, also different from the one in this article.

Wall of Fire doesn't really fit with a creature that loves melee... Neither does produce flame either for that matter...

As for the purple dragons breathweapon, I don't want to mix energy types as this will weaken the breathweapon. I'll probably end up making it a line of light (think laser... :D)

But I still need a good subtype...

Boz: The FR purple dragon is not a species, but rather a unique individual dragon, a black dragon of such advanced age that it's black scales had faded and taken on a purple hue. Either way, it's deader than the preverbial dodo... :D

Now I still need the following:

1, Subtype
2, Immunity(ies)
3, Spell-like abilities (I think endure elements is a good choice, but the others are not.)
4, breathweapon damage type.

Later,

The intent of the article is to portray all of the chromatic dragons as magical crossbreeds from the primary colors and Black and White (I imagine a Grey dragon could factor out of this formula - with a combined acid/cold breath weapon). Some more of this type of hybrid stuff is covered in the Slayers Guide to Dragons written by the man himself EGG.

As for the Orange and Purple breath weapons, I would prefer the Orange use the Acid/Fire combo and the Purple use the Fire/Electrical combo. This would better capture the flavor of the article, which I think should be the primary focus of the conversion. I'll pull out the SGtD and see if provides any clues on combined breath weapons?

So...how do we help Boz resolve this matter to make it workable and playable?

Boz - thanks for all the hard work on this so far!!!
