The Movies

It does look good, but I was hoping for something of an open ended mode between the Tycoon mode (where you play a film studio from the dawn of the movie industry until the modern day) and the Sandbox mode (where you can do anything).

Ie, something more along the line of the Sims, where you have no goals or time limits, but you do have to play to get money and such.
I'm sure there will be cheats and mods that will allow a happy medium. One of the perks of being a PC title.

Yeah. And in fact, one of my fears turned out to be wrong - I read today that in Tycoon mode, you can still play past the modern day if you want, so there is no fixed end (though apparently there are no more technological improvements past 2005 in the game)

That makes me a happy gamer. I am very much looking forward to this game, I just hope it's not crazy expensive. I could live with $40

Looks like it's retailing for the typical $50. There is a special edition as well where you get the soundtrack and some other stuff for $60. Considering the high production costs $50 seems well worth it. I just put my pre-order in for the SE. I'm hoping I get the actor-creator disk before the game actually comes out.

After reading up more about the game (including the above interview which was cool) the game just scooted to the top of my most anticipated games list. Yup, just in front of Civ IV. Man, I am going to be in PC gaming heaven for the next few months starting next week! :)

Time to start pricing out a new desktop (been living off my laptop for almost the last year)...

Seriously! I hate the summer pc gaming drought, because every year when fall rolls around, wham! Multiple great PC titles come out. Like last year when evil genius and rome: TW came out at almost the same time.

You can apparently download the actor creator software from a website. The Movies Planet? Planet the Movies? Something like that. It's 90 megabytes. All this talk has gotten me interested and I've been downloading it (I'm on dial up so it takes a while).

themoviesplanet.com I think is the one (I'm downloading on another computer in my spare time, so I don't have it handy)

Okay, got the Starmaker thing downloaded and running.

First impressions weren't great, most of the premade people are ugly. But it seems pretty powerful once you start playing around with it. You can alter pretty much every facial feature in several different ways. You can take two pre made faces and "morph" between them.

Interesting that it only takes a few seconds to load, compared to a minute or five for the Sims 2 Body Shop. (though the latter also has clothing, this just has faces...)

edit:

It is pretty powerful. I was able to make a very good aproximation of myself, except for the hair (my hair is blonde, but my mustache is black. I had to settle for brown for both in this)

Yeah, it's pretty annoying and not limited to PC releases. It's the whole industry. The rest of the year we get a smattering of good games and then we hit Oct/Nov/Dec and there are at least 8-10 really good looking games that I want. Gah!

Lucky for me, I am resisting the urge to get an Xbox360 in the first wave....

The game will allow you to make ANY type of movie? Porn? ;) If you can't make a porn and they calm you can make any type of movie, thats false advertising. ;)
