He whistles for Whisper. It is obvious that the site had been cleaned and abandoned. The witch was not going to be returning. She was running.</p><p></p><p>Jaguar shakes his head, and Whisper agrees. There is no point in waiting. It may not even be possible to catch the woman, though she has only a short head start, but there is still the hope. The two young men pick up the pace and begin to run through the forest. Though they are moving quickly, neither is neglecting to pay attention to the surroundings and both are fairly quiet.</p><p></p><p>Likely to have been disturbed by the fleeing witch, a flock of birds takes to the air from the trees, and the two men alter their course slightly to move back closer to where the river should be. It is highly likely that the woman did pass that way; but if so, she has moved on. Standing by the river are four pasty youths commonly called Haunts. Each individual is on the shorter side of average, albino white in coloration, and lithely athletic of build. Lines of red and brown, made from clay or berries, are painted on their arms, torsos, and faces. Vines with leaves are woven into their long, pale hair and adorn their bodies. There are two males and two females. All have long, unkempt hair and wield a crude javelin.
