D&D 5E The New Campaign

So our group is starting a new campaign, and for the first time in ages I'm not the DM. Yay!

The campaign premise was that we were basically adventurer-athletes, competing in dungeons for contracts, exposure, and the glory of the Emperor.

We just completed our second dungeon and made 3rd level, making some nice bank.

Which is when the meteors fell from the sky, releasing beholders of every size and color that immediately began warring with one another and laying waste to civilization.

Game 4 should be interesting, don't you think?

Sounds like fun. First bit sounds a bit like X-Crawl, which was a (3.5 era?) RPG about dungeon diving for entertainment. But that's quite the twist that has been thrown at you.
