With only one account, only one person can use it at a time. Leveling up takes 5x as long. The business model gets in the way of convenience. Regarding silverlight, my main objection isn't finding a PC as opposed to a Mac, but that I can't use it on my smartphone or tablet and have to export/import to get them there and that there are some implementation issues with some (most?) of those 3rd party tools where not every stat matches the character builder. Typically the defences. My friends don't bring their laptop to the game either, they bring their tablets and use the import/export feature. Not to cool when you get a new magic item. We usually add them out of session, the one-at-a-time export/import together with a very slow application (at least in Norway) makes it ineffective to do in session. Regarding the use of the word Effective, you are quite right, I should have used the word "Efficient". Both words translates to the same word in Norwegian, "Effektiv". I fully agree with you here. I just don't think it's all that good. If I wanted to rate it, it would get a 6/10. It was good to have but could have been done much better. The easiest feature to implement would be the grading that the wotc charop forum does. It would have made it a good tool for the novices as well instead of swamping them with bad choices. It's speculation from my side, but I am pretty sure 5e is going to have much better digital support than 5e. Hopefully the issues I mention above gets resolved. My guess on how it's done: - html 5 as the platform instead of silverlight - html 5 design that scales according to device with css - srd a lot like pathfinders - character builder I don't think they will go the app-path, mainly because it becomes a huge maintainance issue with ios, android, windows phone, windows and mac support. Creating it all in html 5 would servce all platforms.
