The new Judge Dredd is awesome

Forget that 1995 stinker starring Sly Stallone:

And instead try this year's cinematic iteration of the long running UK comic starring Karl Urban:

The movie is awesome. It's a tense, visually stunning and at times graphically violent film that has a nice undercurrent of black humor. Karl Urban and Olivia Thirby are solid as Dredd and Anderson, while Lena Heady nearly steals the show as gang boss MAMA. One of best comic book films ever made. Go see it.

I wouldn't call it awesome or one of the best comic book movies ever made. I'm not sure it would even be in the top 10. But it is a fun and violent movie.

I was planning to see it, but the most recent trailer suggested that it had slipped over into slow-mo ultraviolence, which put me off it.

Not to worry. There are only two slo-mo action scenes for the whole of the movie, the rest of it is straight up shooting.

As for the level of gore, I'm not sure how it compares to other films. But it can get very gory at times.

There are more then two slo-mo action scenes but the movie has an almost clever idea that makes the slow motion make sense in the movie.
