The new movie from Ron Howard is well directed, well acted, and has a fast pacing that will likely be enjoyed by a wide audience.
Tom Hanks turns in another of his usual fine performances and Audrey Tautou is a breath of fresh air, looking like a young Catherine Zeta-Jones (though there is barely seven years difference between them). Ian McKellen is again enjoyable and I wonder if he now stands as having been in more of the top movies of the last decade than any other actor. With additional support from actors like Jean Reno, Alfred Molina and Paul Bettany, it's a deep bench that is bound to please.
There are some twists in the story that will keep the audience, those unfamiliar with it, guessing. I hadn't read the book, still won't probably, but I think it is a movie worth seeing, and worth seeing on the big screen.
