The Ninja Warlock

Here's a question on this one.

The Stealth skills lists a -5 penalty to your Stealth check if you move more than 2 squares. Is that in an action or in a turn? I suspect it's the former, because of the wording of Fleeting Ghost. Agree or not?

This is important because Shadow Walk cares about your movement for the turn, not the action. So a Warlock trying to sneak along could make two 2 square move action in a turn, thus satisfying Shadow Walk and potentially not triggering the Stealth penalty.

By my reading, you were unable to hide as part of Shadow Walk action, as you don't have concealment till it is over.

It would take two rounds for this to kick in. And, after that, you can in fact render yourself effectively untargettable, with the right checks.

1st Round

Blast, Move. You are now concealed. (Alternatively, Move, Move again with a stealth component.)

2nd Round

Blast
Move again. (Stealthily -Seeing you are still concealed, this works.)

3rd Round - You are hidden.

Blast
Move again, stealthily.

You can rinse and repeat the 3rd round indefinately. Nothing has LOS on you till they make their perception check, and you are free to wander the battlefield using a standard action indiscriminately.

Your recipe is pretty much how mine works - in the first round, they can still see you, although note that if you were walking the round before the fight starts you should still have concealment from that. I doubt many DMs will feel like keeping track of that one, though.

Your 3rd round invisible blast is going to ruin your stealth (but not your concealment) so you are going to have to make a new stealth roll when you move.

On your turn, if you move at least 3 squares away from
where you started your turn, you gain concealment
until the end of your next turn.

Once you move at least 3 squares from your start, you gain concealment. During your move. How else could you read that?

Also, repeat: Where are you all getting that active perception is a minor action? The perception skill says it's a standard.

Hmm. In 3e, concealment from magical effects which blur your form with darkness wasn't the kind of concealment that permitted you to make Hide checks. I know its a new edition and all, but that was a rule that made a lot of sense, and prevented a lot of abuse.

Lets see. Dex isn't a warlock stat. Stealth isn't a warlock class skill. The class feature specifically requires you to move more than 2 squares forcing a -5 penalty. Warlocks get powers related to Stealth. I'd say this application of stealth is intended. It seems they went out of their way to make it slightly harder to do successfully.

Eldorian, you can't hide until you have concealment.

Therefore, you can't stealth as part of that first movement, unless you were already concealed.

4e Wizard utility skill at level 10 called Blur is now a Daily Minor action that lasts till the end of an encounter, which not only gives +2 to all defenses and makes you invisible to anyone five or more squares away. This skill just might be a Rogue or Ranger Multiclassed into Wizards new favorite utility skill. 1 encounter or 5 minutes of Total Concealment(Enemies cannot see you) when you are 5 or more squares away from that enemy. Won't help a melee build much, but the ranged builds will be much more useful for.

PHB p. 281 has it as a minor action. Could have sworn I saw it somewhere else, too.
