D&D 5E The Origin of Elves in Dungeons & Dragons

Mistwell

Crusty Old Meatwad
Unlike the other races, who were "created" by Gods with intent, the Elves "sprang forth" from the blood of Corellon after he was stabbed by Grummsh. Some discussion of the meaning of this in the multiverse, and the conflict between Corellon and Lolth, by Mike Mearls. It provides a pretty compelling story for each side in that war.

Well that's an interesting approach to things, don't think I've ever quite heard it like that before.

I like the reasoning for ancient elves siding with Lolth, it's an insight I had never encountered before. I also like the alternative perspective at the very end about how their war started.

Interesting. I generally use my own homebrew cosmology and pantheon, but I like the Lolth angle and the 'absent parent' idea.

It could really set up a complex Arthurian cycle/heroes journey story for elves as an entire race.

I really like these fluff discussions with D&D Beyond. The teaser videos for Xanathars had a touch of this, but the Mind Flayer, Gith and especially this one on Elves have been great. I wonder if fluff is better delivered in this manner rather than in books. These vids could be elaborated with art and voice acted vignettes to be good companions to the traditional crunch of adventure and splats.
I love the idea of early Llothian elves forming the proto-drow communities in response to the rise of orcs and humans. More martial and being the best of the races... I love that I am thinking about ELVES in a new light from a 3 minute video chat.
