The Pathfinder Wizard and School Power:

Wizards in Pathfinder now get a special ability at every other level called 'school power'. By 20th level you have like ten school powers. But after reading the books I still don't understand what that means? Where's the list of school powers that I can choose from, what are the restrictions, etc.?

The only thing I'm seeing is that if you specialize in a school of magic you get one bonus spell per level (3 bonus for 1st level spells). And you get school related funky abilities; one at 1st, 8th and 20th level.

For example: I chose to be a Diviner specialist so at 1st level I get 'Diviners Fortune' (add your level in points to any skill of your choice- per day), at 8th, 'Scrying Adept' (you know when someone is scrying on you), and a final one at 20th (im forgetting what that is at the moment). As a divining specialist you also always get to act during the surprise round.

But that is the full extent of it. Not sure what I get to do with 10 spell power worth of levels..

Now this may change and in one case{Generalist I am looking at you} should

At levels 1, 8 and 20 You gain the ability in the school description
At levels 2,4,6,10,12,14,16,18 you gain a spell like ability usable 1/day from you school

Not the 2nd level power is 1/day per 2 caster levels in that class.
They brake down as so
2=1st level spell
4=2nd level spell
6=3rd level spell
10=5th level spell
12=6th level spell
14=7th level spell
16=8th level spell
18=9th level spell

Now they must come from the spell school and can be any spell from that school.

Hope that helps some

and might I also add that the additional spells per day take the place of the precious 1 spell per day for specialist in normal 3.5. it is just thaat the wizards now also get the little bonus of 1st level 8th level and 20 level abilities, where the first level one is great for the time when there are no more spells to be cast. most of the school powers at first level give an offesnive ability.

further more each school, with the exception of generalist, get a school power: ie conjurer gets a bonus to A/C, the trans muter gets a bonus to Dex, str or con based on level (somethin like 1 +1/5level. this ability is moveable when ever the transuter next studies spells.

there are others, but I just dont know them right now.

Wizard and Spell Power

That explains it nicely, thank you.

On another note, but still related - if you specialize in a school or magic, are you barred from learning spells from the Universal school?

Thanks
