The perfect gamer wife

Wow, Rel. I don't know if I could be that gracious, if I were her. I hope you're showing her just how much you appreciate her as well ... :)

I'm the perfect gamer wife in the other kinda way - I game as well. :)

Ideally, next year will be the year my wife goes with me to GenCon. She didn't think she could get the time off this year, though it turned out that she ended up being scheduled off most of the time anyway. She's going camping with some friends and our 2 Airedale Terrier puppies instead, though it would have been better if she'd come with me.

Oh well, maybe next year.

That's a damn good spouse.

I can't possibly thank her enough for making this trip happen for me
This is key: you DO owe her big. Come up with something she would love to do - preferably something she would think is to big to actually ask of you - and insist that she do it, then do everything you can to make sure her event goes as smoothly as she's making yours.

My wife is coming with me. She doesn't game but she enjoys the time away from home and Indianapolis does have a fair number of things to do. So Lady IronWolf and IronPup will both be there.

I'll add a "Me, too." One year as I was preparing to go to Gencon, nothing was going right, the plans were falling apart, and in my frustration I yelled at her. She sighed, smiled, and helped me put everything back together, and the trip went without a hitch.

I love her always. :)

Well, we're not married yet, but if my future spouse were going to GenCon, I'd be going too! :p

Unfortunately we can't afford to go. So I'm happy for you and envious of you at the same time, Rel. :(

Sorry, guys, I have you all beat. Because I have the perfect gamer HUSBAND.

Note that I am a stay-at-home Mom, with two daughters (the youngest was 22 months old when I went to my first GenCon), and my husband hasn't got much interest in RPGs, though he is willing to play with me if it's convenient.

He takes vacation days off from work so I can go to cons...usually once or twice a year. And gives up as many or more free weekends for smaller local cons. He does all the childcare stuff I normally take care of. He doesn't complain about the airfare, the overpriced hotel rooms, or the fact that I am spending 80% of my time goofing off with a bunch of strange men.

And yes, I got a CD for my trip last GuruCon.

Now that the girls are older (and Indy is only 2 hours drive away), the whole family comes with me to GenCon. But still, he is 100% in charge of the girls, while I am free to pursue my usual jam-packed con schedule. "See you for dinner, hon!" They actually love spending so much time with Daddy, and he enjoys it, too.

Not to take anything from the lovely women described in the posts above, but I think you might agree that, well, my hubby is something special.

:)

My wife thought that GenCon was supposed to be last weekend. When Wednesday rolled around and I was still there, she asked me when we were leaving, and I said "No, it's next week". Her response? "Damn. I have to deal with you for another week before you leave?" :heh:

I got a good one, too. My wife sounds about like Rel's, only it was an mp3 player instead of a CD. She even made the trek with me and the kids to Lake Geneva for the LGGC. And, she plays D&D in my bi-weekly 1e game.

But really, the "kewl gamer wife" aspect of her -- as cool and welcome as it is -- pales in comparison to everything else she is: best friend, awesome mother, and generally the best thing that has ever happened to me.
