The perfect gamer wife

My wife doesn't enjoy me going, and to be honest, I'm going to miss her and my daughter while I'm gone, but I haven't had a long vacation since the last time I went, so I'm really looking forword to the rest and relaxation - and nonstop gaming!!

My wife is supportive, so I can't ask for much more than that.

Hint to gamer husbands: you will likely be able to go back next year if you take your own turn at "No, you go do [weird thing only you understand], honey, I'll stay home with the little one(s)." But you knew that.

A fellow-gamer wife is not all it's cracked up to be. I'm pretty sure my husband is less than thrilled when we have to take turns ;)

I'm really happy for you, man. :)

I'm also thinking about my ex-girlfriend, imagining her in such a scenario. I think she would have imploded from the stress of single-parenting a child for a week, and it would have come out directed at me in a passive-agressive way. She'd have constantly reminded me, subtlely, how rough it was going to be for her while I was gone, and how much I should appreciate it that she's staying behind to run the show. And that CD thing? Forget it. ;)

Your story gives me hope.

Dude,

Am I married to her "secret, separated-at-birth" twin sister ;)?

Well guys, I can't say she is the perfect gaming wife, but mine is a keeper. I started playing D&D right after we got married. She tried it, didn't like it, but supported my playing and writing. She always helped me host my games, helped me clean up afterwords, and made snacks (including her to-die-for Chocolate Chunk Frosted Cheesecake Brownies). She might roll her eyes a bit when I talk about heading off to the rare con, but never complains. To this day all of this rings true still.

Last week we celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary :)

Not really a anything to do with the subject matter of the post, but when I saw the title of the post (maybe since I'm tired and kind of groggy as I'm only up for a moment to turn the fan on and the computer off [naturally I got sucked in to checking some stuff]) I thought it was going to be a new prestige class for a game...

I really don't have time to be posting this but I just had to.

My wife, is the perfect gamer wife. Every gamer on the planet should be so lucky.

Here I am, getting ready to leave her for a week to go to GenCon. She'll be having to do all the parenting of the very precocious, very 4 years old, Samantha the Red while I'm gone. All the meals, all the baths, all the tucking in at bedtime, all the kiddie videos, all the everything. And yet this whole week she is doing everything possible to make my trip go smoothly.

She took my truck to get an oil change before I drive to Indy. She's gathering up clothes and other stuff that I nearly forgot to pack. She let me sleep in this morning so I'll be rested for the long drive starting tonight. And just a few minutes ago, she walked in with a new CD that she knew I wanted so I'll have some brand new music to listen to on the drive. And, well let's just say that she's been very physically expressive about how much she'll be missing me for the next week. ;)

I can't possibly thank her enough for making this trip happen for me and I hope that each and every ENWorlder going to GenCon this year has a spouse like mine.

See you all soon for some good times and great gaming.

Lucky boy but I think I have you beat. Not only does my wife game, she's a great GM, has worked at a gaming store, plays in PBeM and PBP games and even runs a gaming convention :)

We do lots of collaborative work together (game days, tournament adventures, etc too). She likes SciFi (Babylon 5, Stargate, heck even some Star Trek stuff). No complaints here.

Honestly, at least for me, I don't think a wife that games "has him beat". My wife is not a gamer (although she gamed a little way before I met her, so she knows what it's about), and that to me is better. We do pretty much everything else together, so having my gaming night "to myself" is pretty nice.

But that's just me, YMMV.
