The Poltroon Class

Tonguez

A suffusion of yellow
The Poltroon is basd primarily on Pratchetts 'Rincewind the Wizzard' (as well as Shaggy and Scoobydoo) with a concept of being the coward-hero who hates adventure but is always getting cught up in 'stuff' and only survives on their incredible luck and knack for avoiding damage.

It needs LOTS of work so comments welcome

Poltroon
Alignment Any non-Lawful
HD 6

Good saves Reflex & Will

Level Abilities
1 Baffle, Improved Speed +10, Troubled
2 Trap Sense, Mobility
3 Evasion, Diversion
4 Uncanny Dodge, Baffle + 4
5 Improved Speed +20
6 Matyr for Luck +2
7 Improved Evasion, Baffle +6
8 Matyr for Luck +3
9 Improved Uncanny Dodge
10 Matyr for Luck +4, Abundant Step

Troubled: Poltroons are cursed to attract trouble no matter how hard them try to avoid it. Random monsters are attarcted to the Poltroon, and the Poltroon is always targeted first by any hostile opponent.
Baffle: The Poltroon gains a +2 bonus to escape artist checks made to escape Grapple attempts
Diversion: The Poltroon can divert the attention of an opponent denying them the chance to act for one round. The opponent gets a Will save DC 13. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect
Matyr for Luck: If the Poltroon takes damage from any source (including accidental damage but not 'self' inflicted) they gain a + 2 Luck bonus to AC, Saves and Skill use in the following round

Love the name, at least!

But since the class is based on luck rather than skill, I would give them no good saves, and compensate with a special Spell Resistance. Except that their SR would work by making the spell fizzle away in uselessness, rather than be resisted. The reason could be anything, from the enemy caster being distracted to a magic-eating meteor falling nearby.

Funny Idea ! :)

Skills :
I'll give him UMD, but with a luck bonus when it's the first try of an object/power he doesn't know.

Ability :

Scream :
if caught flatfooted and hit, the poltroon will scream (he can avoid it with a will save DC ? ).
The effect of the scream is equivalent to daze (level based DC). It applies just after the first attack, so if the attacker has multiple attacks, he might lose the remaining ones.

(at DM discretion, allies that are used to their friend's screams could be considered as non flat footed after the scream (I don't know what mechanism could be used for this))

Infuriating dodge :
when the poltroon uses the total defense option, he can try to infuriate his opponents.
his opponents must make a will save or suffer a cumulative penalty of 1 per missed attack (maximum 3, increasing to 6 at level X). This is a dangerous option, because if an opponent has Power attack, the penalty is
used to "fuel " it, thus increasing potential damage. An opponent who fail the will save and has the rage ability
will rage.
