The Pregenerated Characters

From the Q&A yesterday they rolled the priest class into the regular cleric class using the new Domain/Deity system they cooked up. And effectively, you'll get the Mace Cleric and Mystic/Priest Cleric in the playtest.

Also, strongly hinted were two types of elves using the Themes/Backgrounds, High and Wood elves, so I suspect that two of the characters will be elves.

Only high elf in this playtest.

I think at this point they're leaning away from the priest and trying to see if their domain system they've come up with is flexible enough to work with both archetypes in a single class. But I would imagine that the reason they're testing it so much this early is to give them enough time to split off a 'priest' if it proves necessary. But now we're drifting from their specific wording and getting into my personal guesswork.

I agree with your speculation.

So racially specific Themes/Backgrounds are definitely in?

Not exactly...or rather, not necessarily. ;)

A thing I love about our current approach is that you don't just pick your race, such as dwarf. You also pick what kind of dwarf you are.

So how it's being done specifically is dark. Though it could be a race-specific background.

Is it really a big deal to cross out the name, the sex and slap a new picture on the portrait?

I honestly don't really care, they're going to give us the basic rules as well as the pregen adventure and characters. If we want something slam-bam we can use them, if we want something deeper we can just go off the rules.

I was kinda hoping for the opposite. I wanted to see some new art for these pregens. I want the pictures.

As stated above - if I want to use the stats for a new PC I will just insert an alternative picture. (which we might have to do, having more than 5 players and all :-S).

I know my players, they would bitch and whine if they have a portrait on their character sheet that they don't like.

I thought the character sheets were going to be distributed digitally?

It literally takes less effort to open up an editing program to delete the name and picture before you print them up, than it does to actually write a name and draw (or paste) a picture in a blank space.
