The Purple Dragon

I don't think the stats exist. If you read "The Purple Dragon" sidebar in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, you'll find its more or less a myth.

Doesn't mean it's not real, just means that if you want your characters to encounter it, it should either kill them or be unkillable, or both. There's some comment about people trying to kill it every now and again, and that's good because it's one less stupid spell slinger to clutter up the Realms.

And if you're looking for the stats so you can kill it, you may as well look up the stats for the Loch Ness Monster while you're there.

Hmm, it seems that I'll have to do the work myself (and be creative :D ). Perhaps the Purple Dragon is some kind of prismatic dragon (see ELH), it seems to be of neutral alignment after the description in the FRCS. So, a Red Dragon won't fit well for the Forest Kingdom...

Yes, the Purple Dragon was a Great Wrym Black Dragon, who's scales turned purple in his old age.

He was killed in Cormyr: a Novel, by a friggin' apprentice mage and a young king. :(

For once, I'm pissy at Grubb and Greenwood.

This is the case, according to the descriptions given it in Cormyr: A History, the novel by Ed Greenwood.

He never explicitly states its age, but I believe it is intended to be well beyond Great Wyrm. This was at the time before the elves ruled the forest kingdom. Indeed, they bartered for it from him. Should he still live, he would be impossibly old, hence his "unstattable" status.

They probably were sick of him running around singing "I love you / You love me..."

</not-so-obscure bad joke>
