The real ruler of the the Abyss?

Thanks for the replies. What can a demon lord do on their layer of abyss that is special. Also according to deities and demigods can't loth basicly do anything she wants within a few miles of her.

An Abyssal lord exists more or less in symbiosis with their layer. So on some level they -are- their layer of the Abyss, and they exist more or less as extensions of one another.

Generic deity X might be able to control a divinely morphic plane within Y number of miles of themselves, but an Abyssal Lord claiming a layer of the Abyss can more or less do the same, if not more, but on a potentially infinite scale because of the blurry distinction between layer and lord.

Obviously some people may see the situation differently, but I've always gone with the flavor for archfiends and claimed layers from 'Faces of Evil', and to a lesser extent some of the flavor text from McCombs Lords of the 9 article in Dragon (different plane, but the analogy holds for claimed, potentually infinite stretches of reality).

At this point the weak powers of the Demon Princes make it hard to see how a diety could fail to smash them at will. The only reason that I could see for this not to happen is that demons would turn on gods in general if gods interfered too much. But, clearly, in modern D7D the Lloth as a greater Godess would make Demogorgon quake if it came to a confrontation.

I would think that, since the Abyss is Chaotic and infinite, there would be "things left unknown" deeper in it's layers. Something like Elder Gods forgotten or Cthulic type beings tread the lower rungs of it. It's entirely up to individual interpretation (which is what they intended with saying it's infinite).

If Lolth wants to play hard ball I'd say most of the Demon Princes might rise up against her if she started making too much trouble. I mean it might actually unite them in a way....

Course Orcus would kick her around anyway for keeping Kiaranselee around. :p
