It's in German, but check out this map of the expedition down the world's deepest cave in Georgia, Russia. Note the underground lake, the zig-zag pattern, and so forth. Maybe I'm easily impressed, but this looks like an adventure map waiting to happen.

http://www.cavediggers.com/Voronja.pdf is an English story concerning the cave - it's an older 2001 story which only recounts spelunking to -1,710 meters - but it contains VERY detailed maps of that expedition into the cave system.

Yes, I said cave SYSTEM. This mountain-cave system is awesome to read about.

D'oh! .DK, not .DE. I stand corrected. I didn't bother looking that closely...I thought something looked off.

Henry, thanks for that link! Very, very interesting stuff. Wow. I learned some new words, even: Karstology and Speleology! And that Voronja means 'Crow's cave' due to the large number of them nesting at the entrance to that particular cave.

More amusing is the fact that until the late 1970s, Voronja was consider a 'nice location, but no deep caves by cave explorers. One team decided to use a much more methodical search pattern, and discovered otherwise.
