You do realize that Alan Scott was the first Green Lantern to appear with the name. Hal Jordan was a Silver Age retcon like Barry Allen's Flash was the retcon version of Jay Garrick's Flash. I liked all versions but if I had a choice Alan Scott would go back to being Green Lantern.
They weren't "retcons." Retcons were what DC did to effectively destroy Hal Jordan as a character.

Barry Allen became the Flash due to a lab accident (like 75% of all superheroes), and called himself the Flash because he read Flash comics as a kid.

Hal Jordan and Alan Scott's origins are connected by the fact that they both got their rings from former GLC members (Alan's power battery merged with its former owner and then fell to Earth).

IIRC, originally, Alan Scott got his power from a Chinese green lantern (the object, not a hero) that contained a piece of a mystical meteorite called The Starheart. The Green Lantern Corps was only created when Hal Jordan was created in the 1950's (a couple of years after the Barry Allen Flash).

The Starheart was retconned into being a deceased Green Lantern, merged with his power battery. This GL was the pinnacle of the Corps, and the Guardians removed the yellow impurity from his battery. Unfortunately, the near-absolute power the GL now had drove him mad, and the Guardians had to deal with him.
