The RotK quiz

You didn't say this was going to be an essay question! Shortest answer I can think of -- the three jewels of Feanor which captured the light of the two trees before their poisoning. Stolen by Melkor. One ended up in the depths of the sea, one ended up in the heavens with Earandil as the evening star, and I can't remember what happened to the last one.

If I remember correctly Maglor threw one into the sea, and Maedhros cast himself into a fiery chasm with another. The only Silmaril that remains visible is the one mentioned - bound to Earendil's brow as he sails the heavens; the Morning and Evening Star.

Right. One in the water(sea), one in the earth (lava), one in the sky (the Light of Earendil).

As long as we're posting Tolkien trivia (some are pretty easy):

1. Who was the last High King of the Noldor?

2. Why was Aragorn called Elessar?

3. Who dealt seven wounds to Morgoth?

4. After Isildur lost the ring, who found it?

5. Who was the Necromancer?

6. Who was Ar-Pharazon?

7. What was the original capital of Gondor?

8. What was the original name of Minas Morgul?

9. What was the Last Alliance?

10. Who was Manwe?

Goody, I get the easy ones (my Silmarillion-fu is weak, I admit):

4. Deagol the Stoor.

5. Sauron

6. Last Numenorean king of the north (or was he the Witch-king?)

7. Osgiliath

8. Minas Ithil, Tower of the Moon.

9. The alliance of elves and men who defeated Sauron in Mordor at the end of the 2d Age.

10. Creator of the elves (?)

Edit: I'll add some ROTK-specific ones:

11. Who is Halbarad, and what happens to him?

12. Who was Brego, and what was his fate?

13. Which elves actually do come to Aragorn's aid?

14. At what key feature does Aragorn call for the dead?

15. Who is the Grey Company?

16. What gift does the Grey Company bring Aragorn from the North?

17. What fascinates Legolas more than the most beautiful forest?

18. Who is given command of Minas Tirith after the fall of Denethor?

19. What was the original name of Minas Tirith?

20. What sin does the Lieutenant of Barad-dur commit through an editting error of Tolkien's?
