I don't mind if they're ugly. You know, I can somewhat imagine a fantasy world without makeup, barbershops, and baths every day. But I don't want my Conans looking like ConAnns and vice versa.

Being ugly is not the same thing as being unkempt.

But one of the points of medieval fantasy is not having to picture things like
yeast & lice under armors, damsels in distress with an odd smell or elves using leaves in the primeval forest...
