The Santa thread, part one : parental answers

So, suppose you are a parent and your kid has reached the age where they first come to you and ask "Parental unit of your gender and chosen nickname, is Santa really real, or just a story?" What do you say? (poll forthcoming.)

I always tell'em Santa is real, even though two of them are nearing college and certainly know the "real" answer. But experience has taught me that you start out believing in Santa, then reach an age where you don't, and then reach an age where...if life hasn't made you bitter and defeated by then..you believe again.

He may not be jolly and red, but there certainly is a Santa.

"If you don't believe Santa is real, then he'll be hurt and won't leave you presents under the tree."

I'll let the child figure it out as he or she gets older.

So far, oue answer has been "Do you believe he's real?" So far the answer back has been "Yes" and that has been that. However, our oldest is 11 now... the winds of change may be upon us. Time to get the "Santa was a real person, but now is just something fun at Christmas time" speach ready.

We always say that there is a Santa, leprechauns, easter bunny, tooth fairy, you name it...

Mu nephews and nieces (dont have children of my own) are old enough that they know there is no santa - and hat we put the presents under the tree... but they play along and thank us anyhow.

Maybe when i have my own childen I will do a better job at hiding the presents from them until Xmas...

Which is why I don't write on the wrapping paper. Use tags or replace the cards/envelopes.
