The design is proceeding and starting to pick up steam. The announcement system is in place - the first time you visit EN World 2 you will see a screen not unlike this one...

The announcement pop-ups appear once per session to announce upcoming events. An exception is a special 'global announcement' which will be used to warn of impending system shutdown - those messages will launch once every 5 minutes and will typically only be used for 15 minutes prior to a system downage.

Not that I ever log out, but is there a way to turn the pop-ups off, or revert it to the current style of posts on the top of the messageboard? I know if I were logging in and out to read the site, I would find that highly annoying, but that's just me.

There will be a switch to turn of "non-critical announcements" -- you will not be able to stop the global announcement when it's in use. That pop up will only be used to warn of impending board shutdown or something similarly urgent.

That makes sense.

I understand why the non-critical announcements would use the system as well. I recall a study someone here did that found out when something is posted/stickied as an announcement (in the current incarnation of the boards) that it actually gets less views than if it wasn't.

Is it possible to set the non-critical announcements to once ever, per user? That way it's displayed, but not every session if someone logs in and out often. At least to me it seems a reasonable middle ground.

will that popup come on every time i browse the boards? i probably spend as much time browsing not logged in as i do logged in.
