D&D 4E The Search for a 4E Campaign Setting (Or the Creation there of...)

1) Do you have plans to include eladrin, feywild/shadowfell, shifter/warforged and other races to the game?
The eladrin are subject to the same fate as the elves, so they're not around.

Yes to the feywild and the shadowfell: based on what little we know about them they will fit just fine.

Tieflings and dragonborn already have places mapped out for them. Tieflings are recent, a byproduct in some fashion of the open warfare between devils and demons. Dragonborn are the inheritors of a vast empire in the northern desert--but their numbers have dwindled drastically over the past 2,500 years, and now they form isolated tribes in the midst of ancient temples and cities now abandoned and covered in sand. They're not mentioned on the site since they're not OGL.

Shifters, likewise, can easily fit into the one of the forests formerly inhabited by the elves. There are a few places I can think of where warforged would fit, but they're so closely associated with Eberron I'd be reluctant to use them. If someone had a fantastic idea for them and wanted to write it up, though, we wouldn't object.

2) Would one player group's (of the major people involved in the setting at least) actions have a possible impact on others? For example if Town A has Tavern I burned to the ground by player A then if player B goes to Town A Tavern I is still burned to the ground.
Ultimately, yes. Our first goal is to flesh out the setting. Then we're going to start publishing the Adventure Path, and use that to build up detailed materials on the races and countries (and Paragon Paths, and talent trees, and the like) you'd encounter on the way. At that point we'll have more than enough information to publish a campaign setting book, and from there we'd like to start moving the timeline of the world forward, and have players be able to reshape the world.

That's still a ways off, and of course all depends on when and if there's a GSL forthcoming from Wizards.

Hm. Britannia 4E, in the time of Blackthorn's regime. I am intrigued by my ideas and wish to subscribe to my RSS feed.

I suppose as par for the course I should supply some of my own writing here. this is the site for the 4E setting I began and plan to rip parts from for whatever CS i end up joining. Comments on stuff you would like to see/would be willing to use would be great in helping out!

The areas that are detailed out most are specific traditions with the Teiflings [definately check that part out under Races], the noble families, the City of Spirit [can be found in the Kingdom of Westire under Capital] and the small town of Tuseilles [most of that information isn't on the site yet though.]

Jack - that looks quite cool. I'm happy to drag any elements over. Spirit and it's surrounding could easily become an area downriver from old Nerath.

I don't know if anyone ever played the old Mac game Exile (1, 2, 3 or Blades of) which was updated to Avernum? I thought this would make an excellent style of setting for a PoL campaign - in particular the era of the 3rd game where the overground empire has crumbled and underground has an established presence. Of course there's the IP matter, but the base concept is nice to start with.

Personally I hated Blackthorn's reign, but could see much adventure there. I'd love to see a Brittania right before the first arrival of the avatar. Actually this is still my dream project. It is also why I hate EA with the passion of a million dying stars.

I'm started building my own campaign world to play 4th Ed. in (link to maps) and plan on detailing a small region (town, city, ruins, villages, forest, river, that sort of thing) to start the campaign in.

Still, just because 4th Ed is coming out, doesn't mean we all have to quickly adopt a PoL setting. From what I've seen so far, the rules would work with a normal setting.

Nightwing--I've never heard of the Exiles games, sorry. I didn't discover computer games until I was in high school.

Bold or Stupid: I'm glad you liked what you saw! I was thinking of shrinking it to where each province is a much smaller area, perhaps 2-3 villages at most instead of the 3,000 square mile area I used before. Also take a look at the New World setting in the links above. Unfortunately their forum is down so I have no idea what kind of people play in it/with it :P I really like where you were headed with Narem and Ravenastia and thought maybe you'd like to move some of that into their game world? A large portion of their detailed map are large, and seemingly secure kingdoms but the Eastern Coast seems an ideal place to situate an interesting campaign. If not, oh well I'll figure out where I'd like to situate my games.

Skyfullofdust: I couldn't get your link to work. As for the PoL setting, its less that we expect the 4E mechanics to not work well with a typical setting but more that we like the idea and want to steal it for ourselves. You know, typical DM theft. Who out there can say they haven't at least considered ripping something from a game, movie, book, image, other person's ideas, etc.

Notes: The two PbP games I wanted to run were originally planned to be run in tandem with possible cross overs. One group would be made up of several nobles, servants of nobles or otherwise associated for a political reason. They would be investigating an ancient city that had been found that had collapsed underground. The second group would be made up of bandits from a bandit fort in the area that actually protected the townsfolk (while charging outrageous taxes to them and incoming merchants).

After looking over Bold and Stupid's setting I'd be interested to have the nobles come from Ravenastia (thus being human and tiefling mostly. Since I like including whatever the players want to play I could find reasons to include any other races if they ask).
