The Seven Cities of Gold

Its less about the metals and more about the wealth - how about silk? Spices, magic, temptations, knowlege, wisdom, even peace are all examples of things that people might aspire to have and thus make cities worth searching out.

My thoughts:

Atlantis: City of Mercury. you've got the whole sunken, watery city going on, you might as well pair it with liguid metal.

Shangri-la: City of Pearl. I don't know why, but this fits to my mind. Pristine, pure... perhaps the pearls are assoctaed with clouds? Maybe Shangri-la has clam farms? I don't know. Just a free association.

That one American colony that effectively 'disappeared'--Roanoke Island, I think: City of Silver. The entire populace was killed off by were-creatures to keep them from discovering the heavy and supernatural silver deposits around the town. Granted, I don't know how you'd work this into a historical setting, but all the other lost cities are from different time periods, so this seems to fit.

Not sure about the others, but I thought I'd give you some ideas. looking back at the post they're a little... bizare, products of free association that they are. hope this gives you some ideas. What are you planning on using these for? Or is this just 'for fun?'

The disappearance of the original Roanoke (there's a very non-vanished city of Roanoke in Virginia now, far inland) vanishing due to werewolf attacks is something from Werewolf: The Apocalypse, I think. I'd be more inclined to have they fey behind it, myself. That fits better into area/era-appropriate mythology, and fits better with the real world facts. Silver or cold iron both work as fey-related metals, too.

I never really plyed much Werewolf, so I wouldn't know, but I do like the idea of changing it to fey and making it the city of Iron. Much better then the rather plain Werewolf thing.

Vineta is a sunken city. Nobody knows how this happens. It is sunken in the Baltic Sea. Vineta is also called "Atlanis of the Baltic Sea".
You can find amber in the Blatic Sea, so Vineta could be named City of Amber. :)

It could also very nicely be diefic. Like in the musical "Brigadoon".

For those who are not up to speed on their musical theater: Brigadoon is a fictional Irish town that was once plagued by witches. So they prayed to God for a miracle. The town would vanish and only reappear once every hundred years for one day. Why they didn't pray to get rid of the witches is a bit of a mystery, but is probably tied into the fact that you couldn't get any really good songs out of that.
