The Skirmish Game is Fun

So, then from what you say the book is not just about minis... it does have some d20 stuff in it... Ok, Cool.... Is the mini rules just skirnmishing or is there mass combat.... game mechanics to it?

It has:
* New D&D classes, prestige classes, spells, feats, magic items & monsters
* RPG -> Mini conversion notes
* Expanded Skirmish rules, including campaign & magic item rules
* Mass Combat rules (albeit 1:1 scale) that look pretty good
* Random Dungeon rules (which means that a way of randomly determining encounters using the cards - this is quite good, actually).

My review of the MHb is here: http://www.3rdedition.org/reviews/viewer.asp?id=75

Cheers!

The only thing that really bugs me is the trageting of ranged attacks and spells has to be on the closest target, which means figures can't act intelligently.

Well thats odd. Though I have not realy read the rules with a fine tooth comb. I am still using "what makes sense" from my collection of 3.0, 3.5 the stats on the cards and a few notes I remember from the rule booklet :)

Yeah, I played a couple of skirmish games with Diabolus just last night. I agree, it's pretty good. Mind you, the reason that I'm buying the minis to use them in regular D&D, but the skirmish game is a nice bonus, a good way to kill a couple of hours on a weeknight now and then.
