As one who used to deal with this at length in the 80s and 90s before wide spread cellphone usage. What - EVAR!

Been happening for a long time, the world gets "blacked out" electronically for a few days and then everything goes back to normal. 30 years ago this wouldn't have even made the news, now without the constant flow of info to our brains, we are running around like Chicken Little. Maybe a few days without the constant barrage of info will do us some good.

All I know was there were a lot of bad and stupid drivers on the roads today, it was also a hell of a day for me, just was went wrong from the get go.

At DMV from 9:30 to 3:00 just to renew my DL, so it works for me!!!!!!!!

I went to Russia for almost 2 weeks back in 05, and before I went, I was informed i'd need special permission to bring certain electronic devices into the country. Instead, I left it all behind.

When I reached my hotel in Moscow, I used their business office to log into my email account remotely and let my family know I had arrived. I did likewise from my hotel in St. Petersburg, letting them know I was homeward bound.

In between were many blissful days of "connectivity detox," Russian beer, salmon, beer, kvass, fresh produce, incredible artwork, an armory, the Fedoskina factory, Russian Orthodox Churches, beer, war memorials, facilities owned by Boeing & McDonalds, beer, architecture, sushi, and beer. And the Razin Brewery tour in which we all sampled their entire product line...before lunch.

Cell phones? The world's current reliance on electronics goes far further than cell phones. A flare the size of the Carrington Event doesn't happen all the time (that was the last one, in 1859), and it would be enough to cause trillions of dollars of permanent damage to computer systems worldwide. So, on the plus side, you'd get a few years, rather than just a few days.

We actually had a short blackout*- just a few hours- right as I was trying to take my Mom to a doctor to get a medical excuse letter. Since my car was in the garage behind an electric gate, we didn't go. And fortunately, someone else was available to pick up her letter from the MD.
