Class Traits


Role: Striker. Your use of heavy armour makes you especially hard to hit, and your powers ensure doom for any enemy who dares to strike you.
Power Source: Shadow. Your soul is corrupted by the Shadowfell. This corruption empowers your skill with the blade, but it also increases the intensity of your emotions.
Key Abilities: Dexterity, Wisdom, Constitution.

Armour Proficiencies: Cloth, leather, hide, chainmail, scale, plate; light shield, heavy shield
Weapon Proficiencies: Simple melee, military melee, simple ranged
Bonus to Defences: + 1 Fortitude, + 1 Reflex, + 1 Will

Hit Points at 1st Level: 10+ Constitution score

Hit Points per Level Gained: 4
Healing Surges per Day: 9 + Constitution modifier

Trained Skills: From the class skill list below, choose four trained skills at 1st level.
Class Skills: Acrobatics, Dungeoneering, Endurance, Insight, Intimidate, Nature, Perception, Stealth.


Class Features: Closer to Death, Nigtmarish Assault, Cleave the Soul, Blade Affinity.

Soul Cleaver Class Features

You have the following class features.

Closer to Death

You deal + 1d6 Psychic Damage against enemies that have attacked you since the end of you previous turn. While you are bloodied, all of your attacks deal an additional +1d6 Psychic Damage. This increases to + 2d6 while you are at or below one-quarter of your maximum hit points.

Nightmarish Assault

During your first two turns in an encounter, your attacks against enemies that are not at their maximum hit points deal an additional 1d6 psychic damage. If you use your Cleave the Soul class feature during these turns, the enemy you used this class feature against is also dazed (save ends).

Cleave the Soul

When you bloody an enemy with an attack that deals Psychic Damage, the target's soul becomes severely damaged. Until the end of the encounter, the target takes a -2 penalty to Will and takes 3 extra damage from effects that deal Psychic Damage.

Blade Affinity

While you wield a Greatsword, a Falchion, a Glaive, a Scythe, or a Dagger, you gain additional benefits based on the weapon you wield. You also gain an additional At-Will power while you wield the specific weapon.


Greatsword: When you hit an enemy with a greatsword, you gain a + 2 bonus to AC and Reflex against all enemies other then the target until the end of your next turn.
You also gain the Disarming Fireguard power.

Falchion: Once per encounter, when you hit an enemy with a Falchion, you can make an additional attack, using the same attack bonus. If the second attack hits, the first attack deals extra Psychic Damage equal to the damage you would deal by hitting the target with any At-Will power you posess, not including any temporary bonuses or penalties. If the second attack misses, the first attack's damage is reduced by the amount specified above. Regardless of the result, the target gains a + 2 bonus to his next attack roll against you. The ability recharges whenever you become bloodied.
You also gain the Reckless Slash power.

Glaive: When you attack with a Glaive and target an enemy one square away from you, choose one enemy adjacent to you. That enemy must make a saving throw. If it fails, you knock him prone.
You also gain the Far Cleave power.

Scythe: While you wield a scythe, it gains the reach property. In addition, you gain a + 1 bonus to Fear attack rolls using a scythe.
You also gain the Dread Reaping power.

Dagger: When you use a Soul Cleaver power with a Dagger, you can treat it as having the "Ranged Weapon" range instead of "Melee Weapon". In addition, when you hit an enemy that you have combat advantage against with a Dagger, increase the Dagger's damage die by one size.
You also gain the Precise Cut power.

At-Will Attack Powers

Precise Evisceration
(Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You strike your enemy in a vulnerable place, leaving it howling as you strike again and again.

Standard Action Melee

Attack: Dexterity vs. Reflex
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier damage, and the target grants combat advantage to you until the end of your next turn.

Shadow Dance (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You dance and flicker like a shadow cast by a torch, moving and striking before anyone can react.
At-Will * Shadow, Weapon

Effect: Before the attack, you move 2 squares.
Attack: Dexterity vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier damage.
Effect: After the attack, you move 2 squares. You do not provoke an opportunity attack from the target for this move.

Alliance with the Shadows (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You strike with a heavy, sweeping blow, and your enemy's shadow joins you in hate. And bites.

Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity or Wisdom modifier damage + Constitution modifier cold damage.
Special: This power is a melee basic attack. Whenever you would make a melee basic attack, you can use this power.

Vengeance Strike (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You strike your enemy, lifting the power of your vengeance. A successful strike rewards you with renewed vigor.

Hit: 1[W] + Wisdom modifier damage, and you gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier. If your current hit points are currently at or below one-quarter of your maximum hit points, you instead gain 5 + your Constitution modifier temporary hit points.

Weave the Shadow Thread (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You focus yourself. Suddenly, you disappear. Your enemy looks around in panic.When he turns away, you appear behind him and plunge your weapon in his spine.

Target: One creature
Effect: Before the attack, you become invisible, and you teleport to the closest unoccupied square adjacent to the target.
Attack: Wisdom vs. AC.
Hit: 1[W] + Wisdom modifier damage.
Effect: You cease to be invisible.

Disarming Fireguard (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
Your blade ignites with dark fire. When you strike, the fire erupts, overheating your enemy's weapon and forming a protective halo around your head.

Requirement: You must be wielding a greatsword.
Target: One creature
Attack: Dexterity or Wisdom vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity or Wisdom modifier fire damage, and the target must make a saving throw. If it fails, the target drops one item that it is currently holding into your space.
Effect: Each enemy that moves from a square adjacent to you before the end of your next turn takes fire damage equal to your Constitution modifier.

Reckless Slash (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You rise you Falchion above your head, and then you strike. The enemy bleeds, but sees a spark of hope - if it survives.

Requirement:
You must be wielding a falchion.
Target: One creature
Attack: Dexterity or Wisdom vs. AC. This attack is a critical hit on a roll of 19-20.
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity or Wisdom modifier damage, and ongoing 5 damage (save ends).
Effect: The target gains a + 2 bonus to his next attack roll against you.

Far Cleave (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You slash the backs of two enemies with your glaive, then pin them to the ground if they ignore you.

Requirement:
You must be wielding a Glaive.
Target: One or two creatures
Attack:
Dexterity or Wisdom vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + one-half Dexterity or Wisdom modifier damage, and the target takes damage equal to twice your Constitution modifier if it moves away from you on its next turn.

Dread Reaping (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You slash with your scythe before your enemy's eyes, and it freezes in terror.
At-Will * Fear, Shadow, Psychic, Weapon

You must be wielding a scythe.
Target: One creature
Attack: Dexterity or Wisdom vs. Will
Hit: 1d8 + Dexterity or Wisdom modifier Psychic damage, and the target takes a - 2 penalty to attack rolls and a penalty to damage rolls equal to your Constitution modifier until the end of your next turn.

Precise Cut (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You slash your enemy from its belly to its chest, leaving a long and deep wound. The attack provokes you both to fight on.

You must be wielding a dagger.
Target: One creature
Attack:
Dexterity or Wisdom vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity or Wisdom modifier damage, and you and the target gain a + 2 bonus to damage rolls against each other until the end of your next turn.

Note: Disarming Fireguard is a power that requires adapdability from a Dungeon Master. Ask him if he can afford improvising actions for a Disarmed monster (for example, trying to recover the weapon). If he does not wish to improvise like that, replace the text after 'saving throw' with the following: Choose a weapon the target is currently wielding. The target takes a - 2 penalty to attack rolls with the chosen weapon.

1st level Encounter Attack Powers

Flood of Emotion (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You overwhelm your enemies with the power of your wrath.
Encounter * Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee

Target: One or two creatures
Attack: Wisdom vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Wisdom modifier damage, and you knock the target prone.

Capricious Assault (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You launch an attack. If the enemy is worth your attention, you try to strike him down. Otherwise, you step away to find better targets.

Attack: Wisdom vs. AC
Hit: 2[W] + Wisdom modifier damage. If the enemy you targeted has the ability to spend action points, it takes 1d6 + Constitution modifier extra damage. Otherwise, you shift 1 square away from him, and choose two enemies within your line of sight. The chosen enemies are pulled 2 squares towards you.

Flurry of Strikes (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You slash again, again and again. Each strike causes your enemy to sway, but you don't stop: You will get what you want from him, even if it involves cutting him to pieces.

Attack: Dexterity vs. AC. Make three attack rolls. If at least one attack roll hits, the attack hits, and all of them must miss for the attack to miss.
Hit: 1[W] damage if one attack hit, 2[W] damage if two attacks hit, or 3[W] damage if all three attacks hit.

Dark Challenge (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
Your strike leaves a dark bond connecting you to your enemy. If he ignores you, you appear next to him and cleave his soul.

Hit: 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage.
Effect: The target is marked until the end of your next turn. If the target makes an attack that does not include you as the only target, you teleport 5 squares to a square adjacent to it, each creature adjacent to you before you teleport takes 5 fire damage, and you make the following melee attack against it as an Immediate Interrupt:
Dexterity vs. Will; the target receives a -3 penalty to attack rolls until the end of its next turn and is subject to your Cleave the Soul class feature as if you bloodied it.

Lightning Sweep (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You sweep your weapon in a wide arc, assaulting all surrounding enemies with malicious lightning.

Attack: Dexterity vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier damage, and if the target does not make an attack that targets you on its next turn, it takes 1d6 + your Constitution modifier damage at the end of that turn.

Level 1 Daily Attack Powers

Call the Bloody Claws
(Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
As you strike, you animate your enemies' shadows. They sprout blood-dripping claws and join you in slaughtering your terrified foes.
Daily * Shadow, Conjuration, Fear, Weapon
Standard Action Melee

Target: One or two creatures
Attack: Dexterity or Wisdom vs. AC
Hit: 2[W] + Dexterity or Wisdom modifier damage, and you push the target 2 squares.
Miss: You push the target 6 squares.
Effect: You conjure a clawed shadow in one square inside each target's space. When a target with a clawed shadow moves, the shadow moves with it. Whenever an enemy adjacent to a clawed shadow makes an attack that does not include you as a target, that enemy takes 1d6 psychic damage. If an enemy with a clawed shadow in his space makes an attack that targets only you, the shadow disappears.

Focus of Wrath (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
Your wrath spills from you in a wave of black smoke. You strike with monstrous power. The strike leeches life from you, but leaves you with a way to regain it.
Daily * Shadow, Healing, Weapon
Standard Action Melee

Target: One creature
Effect: Before the attack, you take damage equal to your bloodied value. This damage cannot be reduced or prevented in any way.
Attack: Dexterity + 2 vs. AC.
Hit: 3[W] + your healing surge value + Dexterity modifier damage. The next attack that you hit with before the end of the encounter deals extra damage equal to your healing surge value.
Miss: Half damage + your healing surge value in damage.
Effect: Until the end of the encounter, whenever you reduce an enemy to 0 Hit points, you regain hit points equal to your healing surge value.

Circle of Death (Soul Cleaver Attack 1)
You warp the space around you for a short time. Enemies caught in the warp have no other option than to attack you, and when the warp ends, you assault them with a fiery sweep.

Standard Action Close

Target: Each enemy in the burst
Effect: Each target is Immobilized and is forced to attack you if it can until the start of your next turn. At this point, you make the following attack:

Hit: 2[W] + Wisdom modifier fire and psychic damage.
Miss: Half damage.
