State of the TPK
TPK had been fairly quiet lately, but that is changing rapidly, and I’m pleased to finally let a lot of the cats out their respective bags.
Let’s begin by saying that the responses for our last few adventures and villain sourcebooks have been terrific. We were greatly pleased to see the critic and fan responses, and now have hired on some additional Killers to meet the demands of our project ideas.
In addition to our earlier additions of sick and twisted writers Tom “Qadim” Phillips (2012 RPG Superstar Top 4) and Bernie “Murkatos” McCormick, we’ve also brought on board James Olchak (2012 RPG Superstar Top 4) and Kevin “Game Masters Kip” Mickelson. Also writing and editing for us is Skip “Sir Xaris” Twitchell, best known for his fan work on the Greyhawk fan site Canonfire!
In addition to writers, we’ve partnered with several new art studios to expand our offerings. The first is Mike McMahon, a long-time comic artist from the Quad Cities (Iowa), who has worked with many industry legends and done art for numerous comics. Second is Ugli Studios of Pennsylvania, known for their excellent comic ‘Through the Eyes of Grizelda,’ a tale of a familiar and it’s pet necromancer (yeah, you read that right). You will see both of their works in our upcoming projects. Not to mention more evocative and dark original art by our own Michael Fall, along with stunning new cartography by Richard A. Hunt.
Let me just say that some of the projects being finalized now, are VERY exciting. Everyone really has expressed their love of our dark fantasy and horror themed style. Here’s a taste of some things to come…
Infamous Adversaries: Ischadra, Grandmother of Assassins by Tom Phillips – You already know our villains are truly vile. This is one that will make your skin crawl. The soulbound doll Ischadra, who serves as the direct instrument of the Naebilite church of Murder. She makes Chucky seem like a Saturday morning cartoon, and has the skills to harry even a very high level party of seasoned adventurers. (This product is enjoying its third 5/5 star review by community reviewers!)
The Bleeding Hollow by PJ Harn, Brian Berg and Rick Cox – This survival-horror sandbox adventure has been in production for over a year, and ran in its entirety several times at various conventions. Our showing at GenCon for the adventure put us in the Premier Events category for 2012 because of the large amount of interest it drew and the responses. It isn’t every day you have MtG players blow off pre-paid tournaments because they can’t stand to leave a roleplaying game…
We originally thought about partnering with some of the better known adventure publishers, even discussing this with Legendary Games about the possibility. Instead, we decided to produce this ourselves with a Kickstarter campaign. You can find that info HERE.
The Malefactor Base Class by Brian Berg and James Olchak – Our first class sourcebook, this has also been in development for some time. We wanted to do something very different from the standard fare the other 3PP’s have produced. Our Malefactor should be a dream to roleplay, and they are seriously bad news… THis is currently in playtesting, and we might open up round two to a few more people...
The Revised Tomb of Caragthax by PJ Harn and Brian Berg – One of our first published adventures, this has needed a solid revision for some time. The new version features almost triple the content, with some really sexy maps, an entire additional layer, some new haunts and of course, Caragthax’s loot. What does a sociopathic warlord keep for loot? I guess you’ll have to read it and find out.
Lastly, there is one more fun surprise to let loose. We’ve been discussing crossover works with several other 3PP companies. One of the first that we are going to do is an Infamous Adversary character based upon the stellar Death Knight class by Owen K. C. Stephens and Super Genius Games. This will be penned by Brian “Necroblivion” Berg, whose penchant for Necromancy is no secret, and Rick “The Drunken Mime” Cox, whose shattered mind dreamed up the acclaimed Raxath’Viz, the Creeping Rot and wrote the fiction for many of our products. Owen is also going to write an introduction to our villainous creation.
Lastly, as some of you already know, we have been slowly but surely getting our newer products in print. They look slick and we are very pleased with their production and quality. They will be available for sale directly from us, on our Facebook page (facebook.com/tpkgames) or on our website (TPK Games Home). We’ve acquired our publisher code, and will soon be seeking distributors to carry our products. More details soon.
The first half of 2012 has been monumental. We fully expect to take our work to new levels and much broader horizons. We’ve doubled our writing staff, and nabbed some seriously talented folks from the Pathfinder and old-school RPG community who fit seamlessly with our brand. I’ve only teased a small amount of our upcoming products.
Expect the unexpected! I wish I could tell you all my secrets… We are going to do some big things this year. We hope you’ll come along for the ride.
